This is the older ballad concerning Sigmundur Brestisson and the christianisation of the Faroes. It is one of the oldest Faroese ballads. The dancers are from the company "Dansifelagið í Havn" and Birgir Djurhuus is 'skipari'

What an incredibly rich heritage the people of the Faroe Islands have, I'm a bit envious!

On par with morris dancing...i welcome the Islamic hordes if this is all us germanic/Scandinavian peoples have to offer

@@patjonas0 we probably had a lot more before the Reformation, Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution took over. Same in France, the Breton dances look tame today but were scandalous before the 1900s when Parisians tried to 'civilise' the crazy Celts.

This is like a tale and song in one. This is a deep Nordic culture, be proud and be aware of intruders. We weren't when the Spanish came. Best regards from Latin America.

Fantastisk fint! Synd att denna sång- och danstradition gått förlorad i Sverige!

I can listen to this for hours.... " hundred bottles of beer on the wall ... take one down, pass it around, 99 bottles of beer on the wall." Our Western culture doesn't begin to touch the level of mutual devotion and truth we can see here. Wow. I wanna do this; it's very compelling, to care this much.

This is a tale, not a song. The Faroe Islands are known for retelling the tales of long ago vikings in this form... singing and dancing and they only use the faroese chain dance while they sing these tales... the faroese chain dance is the only remaining known chain dance from the middle ages. There is also a tale about Olav Tryggvason, a Norse Viking King who ended up reportedly jumping into the water below his ship.

Hej! Jag gör en film om Färöarna och skulle vilja använda några sekunder från den här filmen. Kan den ansvarige utgivaren kontakta mig så vore det toppen?:)
