Fani Dimitrova The Danes no. If I remember correctly only some Swedish do it‚ and the Norwegian have stopped for a long time ago‚ it's known a Faroese Folk dance (Chain dance) or Kvæði.

It's of the west nordic culture. Norway did this until the danes and swedes made it east nordic. The only west nordic countries today are Iceland, Faroese and maybe Greenland, although mostly natives live there.

This type of ballad singing and dancing originated in 13th century France, from where it gradually spread through the courts of Europe and eventually became popular also among the common people. When the Faroese ballads are from, no one really knows, could be anything from 14th to 16th century, some being older, some younger. But the concept itself is southern French.
