‘Signals of Deception’: Alex Murdaugh’s Behavior Ripped Apart by Body Language Expert

Throughout Alex Murdaugh’s family murder trial, the disgraced lawyer has displayed a roller coaster of emotions while listening to testimony. Plus, footage showing police questioning the disbarred South Carolina attorney on multiple occasions after the murders of his wife and son in June 2021 was recently released by the court. If that were my family, friend, stranger, whoever, I would have checked for signs of life and started CPR if indicated. My first inclination would be to try to rescue them while rescue and police are en route to the scene.

@kd8199 he doesn't even explain the scene to the 911 operator or ask what to do. He hangs up the phone to start calling people before he even knows what's going on. Why is he calling the neighbor kid?? That 911 operator is your lifeline in a crisis. Also, he doesn't go through any stages of grief, he just skips right to acceptance. He doesn't ask why, he doesn't seem the least bit concerned about who, there's no disbelief.

This was premeditated. He asked his wife to come over so they could go to visit his father. He asked Paul to come home so they could plant sunflowers. Now both of them are dead and he was the last person with them…which he denied, until everyone identified him as being on the scene based on Paul’s video. All of a sudden his defense changed and he admitted that he lied. Why? Because he was identified as being on the scene and there was no way he could get out of being found guilty. Now all of a sudden “he’s” his defense. He gets on the stand because he thinks he can outwit the DA. What a sick pathological liar. This man literally massacred his wife and son. If only the dogs could talk.

Spot on! Don't forget: He thought that he was brilliant with committing a murder and then covering it up. I suspect that he would have even gotten away with it IF Paul had not recorded that video. That one piece of audio from that iPhone video placed him on the scene and destroyed his otherwise solid alibi. So, essentially, Alex Murdaugh did (kind of) outsmart the cops and the DA -- until a video proved him to be a liar. His world unraveled because the son that he murdered in cold blood had captured his voice on a timestamped video. My only question (still) is whether Alex Murdaugh had "help." It's a ruthlessly brutal thing to gun down someone. Shootings gave PTSD to soldiers in WW2 for killing Nazi and Japanese soldiers. A few years ago, I had a neighbor in his upper-80s who had PTSD from the Korean War. That war ended in 1953 -- and this man was carrying the pain of killing North Korean communists ever since. So, I wonder if this was a crime of passion (i.e., Alex killed Paul and then his wife in a fit of rage) OR that he planned for someone else to kill them. I'm sometimes leaning toward the latter. In his testimony, he seemed very assertive that someone else did this because he did not "do this" and he did "not pull the trigger." It was one of the only things that he was ever assertive about. It's still premeditated murder (by proxy). However, one allows a sociopath to "wash his hands" of direct culpability.

@@ccchhhrrriiisss100 I've watched a lot about this case but I have not watched the whole trial yet. What I think is that his wife wanted a divorce and she had accountants looking into their finances. On top of that because of the boat case, two days after the murders happened, he was supposed to provide his financial statements for that. He kills them both and all of his financial problems disappear, the family name is saved, and he gets sympathy from everybody. What I truly wonder is if buster is aware of what his father had done. I do not believe it was a crime of passion, it was an unraveling of generations of this powerful and wealthy family (at HIS doing)... And a last-ditch effort to change that. His whole world was crumbling around him and he thought that was his best option to change it. You know what is super interesting to think about... The drug dealer that he had wanted to shoot him... Said he felt like he was being set up. I truly believe that he was planning on killing that man in self-defense and framing him for the murders. "I owed my drug dealer a bunch of money and he came to kill me and I wasn't there, so he killed my family and came back for me." 🙄 He didn't want to die or when the guy didn't kill him, he would have finished it himself. He wanted to set that man up. Who are they going to believe between him and a scummy drug dealer?

the dude was on prescription drugs. doctors just don't hand out infinite prescriptions, this entails the idea of illegal drug purchases taking place and given how he moves money around, if he fronts or shorts an actual criminal entity on payments, things work out a lot differently. This is how we know the use of 300BLK entails a younger shooter. For all we know that rifle could have been used as a payment for drugs.... which would actually begin to explain A LOT RIGHT THERE.

@@campsitez2355 Dr's do prescribe opioids. No dealer needed. Any kind of pain can be faked. Not all Dr's require the necessary tests and scans to verify source of chronic pain.. especially with affluent people like this..Many Dr's have been known to take extra money as incentive to write scripts. Which is what ruins it for the people who actually are in pain management for legit proven chronic pain conditions who do everything by the books. I hate people like this. Living in constant chronic and debilitating pain is no joke. Have they verified he had legit prescribed pain meds by his Dr? Or verified that he got them by other means? What's your basis for what you just said? I've only heard he went to rehab.

I just want to say: last summer, I went out front and was looking for my senior cat who wasn't coming when it was time to come in. She never went far, so I started to feel like I knew what was up... I stepped to the other side of my truck and there she was, laying on the ground, on her side. She was stiff with her eyes wide open and tongue hanging out sideways. Dead. I mean, I'm a person who NEVER cries (maybe 2x in 10 years) and I've actually thought about how I would react when she passed (she was 18 and we knew it was coming soon), but nothing prepared me for the actual moment. I broke down like a blubbering mess, I couldn't even go by her... I was sobbing hysterically and ran into the house to get my husband, but I couldn't even speak. I dropped to my knees and was just sobbing and literally couldn't catch my breath to speak... I had to force myself up to lead him outside and point to the direction that she was at. I didn't stop crying for at least an hour and then I was so exhausted and catatonic from crying and seeing her like that... Now here's Alex. He just "stumbled upon" his son with his BRAINS AT HIS FEET, in a POOL of blood... And his dead wife. Do I think his reaction is normal? No. I think he had a story to tell and as soon as they got there, he started: "it's a long story..." like wtf. Then asks the officer who comes later, "how ya doin?" WHO THE FUNK CARES HOW HE'S DOING?! 😂 WHAT. THE. One thing- I still have that graphic vision of when I found her that day and it breaks my heart. I hope he sees what HE DID to his son and wife every time he closes his eyes. You could see the remorse every time they talked about the condition of Paul's body during the trial... Maggie, not so much. He didn't want to kill Paul, but he had to make that boat case go away so he could hide his web of deceit. Never would've happened... But that was his last attempt to fix it. Big life insurance policies, no more justice for Mallory and maybe you can save the family name with sympathy. Ha. It's no coincidence that 2 days before he has to show his finances AND the very SAME DAY his firm fires him, this happened. It was now or never. He had to have a speedy trial to try for that not guilty verdict BEFORE all the damning financial evidence (aka MOTIVE) came out. Fail.

He was keeping up the façade at the birthday. Other people were there. I grew up with a parent that did this any time people were around that there was a need to 'impress' or make believe everything was 'perfect' all the time, when in reality, that couldn't have been further from the truth. Saving face is really important to a narcissistic sociopath and this is classic in Alex's case. He admitted to a witness that testified today that whoever killed them had thought about it for a long time. I believe he absolutely did and that he calculated every step in trying to get away with it. He's absolutely vile in every way, and I have zero doubt that he is guilty of these murders.

Paul and Maggie were expendable. Alex mentioned Maggie didn’t work more than one time, but was quick to say she did everything. If he said it in reverse then I would say he appreciated her, but he mentions not working first. He was having money problems and she was going to leave him because bills were going unpaid. She mentioned his infidelity to her sister. Yeah, she was going to take everything that was left. That is why he killed. He killed Paul because he was costing him money too, with the lawsuits.

The zero to 100 emotional reaction is alarming. I find it interesting she didn't mention it, but they've studied body language, facial expressions, and vocal regulation. In true emergencies and traumatic situations body language can be consciously dampered and/faked, in sociopaths in particular facial expressions can be regulated, but vocal regulation is the thing even the best liars struggle to regulate in those situations. It's the truest tell. He goes high pitched at that 0-100 but goes straight back to a fairly calm tone uncomfortably fast. My daughter passed out and fell a few months back. It was out of the blue and it scared the c***p out of me. I called 911 because, for a moment, I was having trouble getting her to answer me. I consider myself pretty good in a crisis, as my grandma was a nurse and taught me to stay calm, panic never helps... I had to remind myself to breathe more than once though because I was having trouble talking. This guy supposedly just found his wife and youngest son in unspeakable condition but his voice is calm during way too much of his conversations with LEO

In addition to the timeline (impossible for anyone else to have done this), his lies, his alibi blown, the fact that he never ever cries "for them," for their pain, their fear, their terror, but only for himself is telling. Add to that he never said, please run, drive, search, go everywhere and find who did this to my wife and my son. The gun was a show. He couldn't bear to stand next to the bodies once he called 911, so he went back to the house, then came back only when he had to (gun excuse). He didn't act scared that the perpetrator was still lurking around, traceable, nor did he beg cops to find them- ever. He then staged a hit on himself- proven- to further deflect attention to some stranger on the loose. If he's capable of paying someone shoot him, he's capable of anything. We've seen boating DWI incidents many times. No one goes and kills the family of the drunk kid. Absurd. The messages were probably because the family kept lying and covering up. Not real threats just disgust. He probably killed the housekeeper too so he could steal her family's money from the settlement. People die around this dude and he love pretending he's the victim.

Yes, your points about WHY there was so much local anger about the boat wreck was due to so many people seeing that the Murdaughs, as usual, were just interested in themselves. And the families of the other people on the boat were just appalled at how they behaved. Then there was the obstruction of justice that they set up with the corrupt local officers. These officers wrote up false reports saying that it wasn't Paul steering the boat. The people in the area had been afraid of them for a long time, and they were seeing things happen again. Had they been forthright and honest about the boat wreck, there would still have been anger, but not so much. I also thought your comments about his going to get the gun because it gave him a reason to not remain by the bodies, was very interesting. I hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense.

I love how she said that crying escalates, rather than coming out immediately! It's so true! From what I've noticed, when a lot of people cry (especially as adults), they try to conceal these emotions at first (often because they don't want to be judged or pitied, etc), so they try to keep it under wraps. It's only when they can't hold it in anymore that they freely express their emotions! The timeline also shows he lied about his arrival and checking their pulse for signs of life. With his timeline, and call record, there was no possible way he could have ran 35+ feet to check Paul first. Then go over to Maggie and check her pulse. From his vehicle records, call log, putting the vehicle in park... to the time he made the call to 911 would be physically impossible. Alex Murdaugh lied in attempts to cover his tracks. He thought about this for a long time, as he suggested.

He’s got a smirk on his face the whole time. Maybe that’s just how he looks, but it’s a tell for me that he’s lying and thinking he got away with it. No tears in his crying, either. It seems he can’t remember details very well, either. If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember what you said. He’s building a story as he goes and he adding details along the way, that don’t quite fit together because of his making it up. He really has no genuine reaction to their violent deaths. It’s sn act.

Alex wasn’t even there the night of the boat wreck… Paul was the one driving as told by the survivors and they were caught on surveillance at the gas station and the bar. The house keeper wasn’t murdered.. her own family believes that she died from an accidental fall (head injury). I think Alex is guilty of these murders but no need to make things more sensational than they already are..

@@cecilyworley8424 It is not about making it sensational. You must see that the fact they took out a policy for their housekeeper... I do not know of anyone taking out a policy for their housekeeper. And what makes the situation more suspicious -- I say 'suspicious' here-- is that she dies after that AND her policy money is stolen by the very person who took it out! Also, he defrauded the insurance company with his "troubled" cousin by having him "shoot" him in the head...His cousin has confessed to this. He wasn't there the night of the boat accident that is true but the rest of it shows a pattern of behavior.
