My dad has lights that he connected to his phone somehow so when people walk past certain spots in front of the house a lamp in different rooms blink so he knows there’s people out front. He’s not deaf, just a techy dude, but I didn’t think about how that could be used for accessibility.

Ryan is soooo funny I was smiling the whole time!!! the reason the "black light" doesn't seem bright is because it is actually a UV light, so it doesn't emit "visible light" the wave lengths are just a little too short, but it does make white things seem neon and really spooky!!

There’s an environmental control thing you can get for your doorbell (it also connects to your phone, baby monitor & other stuff I can’t remember) but it’s like a 2nd doorbell. In WI there is a program that Deaf (HOH, DeafBlind) all get a $$ good for all kinds of equipment but you have like a lifetime limit amount. We are (hopefully) getting a bunch of equipment through another program (in WI) for our daughter bc she’s DeafBlind & one of the things is the environment unit & for now we’re going to put the doorbell outside her door so she knows when someone’s coming in the room. Right now I just stomp super hard 😆 The program in WI also covers the permanent doorbell too, which is awesome!

My cousin bought a house that had a doorbell already for deaf and hard of hearing. It’s all white square except the doorbell button is outlined with a neon blue light. Then the receiver is inside plugged in to an outlet below the breakfast bar and flashes a large neon blue light when the bell is rung. It doesn’t look very expensive and I don’t think it has all the wiring.

My grandma had the light doorbell. But hers is just double sided tape on the door for the door bell button, then for the light, it’s a small box plugged into a lamp and plugged into the wall. She also has a motion sensor box by the back door. No WiFi needed. The lamp light will flicker, then u look at the box and it tells u if it’s the front door or the back door that was set off. That was before the Ring door bell system. Also, my grandma last had the phone that generated text, but before that I always called TTY. I hated the TTY operator because I wanted my conversations more private. The speak to text was nice for her as she was able to speak pretty good so we herd her fine in the phone and the auto generated system turned our voice into text for her on her end. No operator was needed anymore. U learn to speak slow and clear for it. Worked good for the most part.

Cutest couple ever! I'm a newly subscribed person looking to learn more about deaf culture. My question is how do you use to the noises people who are deaf make when then sign. Some other vloggers make a lot more noises then Ryan, (Ryan is actually very quiet), but other vloggers make lots of sounds that are not words, some put air in their cheeks or stick out their tongues while signing. I want to be able to communicate with people who are deaf, but this has been the part I am most nervous about. I don't understand why they are doing it and how to ignore it.
