@sleatersan5 жыл бұрын
@@zena6565 Just so you know, companies often don't hire people who are under 18 because the labor laws for minors are stricter and more complicated than they are for people who are of age. And for a big chain like Victoria's Secret, individual stores aren't in a position to make exceptions to those policies - they won't have the right paperwork available in order to hire you and make sure your tax stuff is set up correctly. It's not that they think 17-year-olds don't have the maturity or the right skills - they legally can't hire them. That said, knowing more than one language, including ASL, is definitely valuable and will look good on your application. And if they think you're a good fit they might keep you in mind to hire on once you're 18. (If this is a reference to something I'm not getting, ignore me lmao I'm old)

I wanted to learn sign ASL because my family just found out one of my brothers are deaf. They say earring aids might help but we will need to learn ASL. It's 2:03Am here and I really want to get better at it for him so I can talk to my brother.

I'm starting to learn ASL and love your videos, I REALLY appreciate that last time you sign something you leave the text out. Not trying to read really helps make me sure I'm understanding the sign without the hint when I re-watch the video.

I'm a licensed hairstylist, and I work in Talladega Alabama near the Alabama School for The Deaf and Blind, I have a lot of clients that come into the salon and I would love to be able to communicate with them better. I know some basic ASL and your videos have really helped me practice my ASL. If you have time could you do a video with ASL hair terms, so I will be able to better serve my clients by communication with ASL, if you can't post one I understand but I have a salon full of women who want to learn and we live in a thriving town filled with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and we want to be able to better serve them in the salon. Thank you so much! Keep up the good work and please continue to post videos! Your videos are the most helpful ones out there! Thank you and much love !

Hi! Love the videos so far, I am learning so much, thank you! Got a quick question though. Why are you signing "where are you from?" as "You from where?". Does it matter in which order you start off your sentence? In other words can you sign it as you actually say it out loud? So it would be "where are you from?" So where finger waving, then point to you, and then from sign. Thank you for your help!
@ashlynstephens51605 жыл бұрын
Tyler Deatherage I was confused about that too
@hotcocoacrazy55805 жыл бұрын
@Tyler Deatherage @Ashley Stacy I know this was five months ago, but I would still like to reply! Like any other language, ASL has its own grammar structure! You basically sign the most important words first, and the rest of them follow. It's like french! If you were going to say, "the blue shirt," you would actually say, "the shirt blue" (in french). I still don't completely understand ASL either, but that's why I'm here! I hope this makes sense!
@ashlynstephens51605 жыл бұрын
SerpentStrike Thanks for the explanation!! That makes a lot more sense now

@katrinamarvin2797 жыл бұрын
Hahahahaha same here! I speak better with my hands anyway. Whether it be through writing or through ASL, I just find it easier to speak through my hands. I can speak aloud, I'm not deaf, but it's very frustrating, having to speak up, for both my parents and other family members, or repeat myself for others.

i’m here after watching Netflix’s Dark and watching Elizabeth Doppler talk with hand-sign language, and then i suddenly remembered about my deaf friend that already died a long time ago, she has no friend to talk with because we as a kid can’t understand hand-sign language. and then 3 years later, i came here to learn about sign language so maybe, if i have a deaf friend again, i can understand their language and they will understand me too, so we can play together and be friends :) thx for helping me a lot :))

For "no problem" wouldn't you sign "none problem" instead of the literal "no" and "problem"? The way you signed it seems more like English grammar rather than ASL
@signedwithheart7 жыл бұрын
That's another way you can sign "no problem" ("none problem") but honestly, I personally think that is still English. American Sign Language is not completely free from English. "How you?" is still English even if "are" is dropped. "How are you?", "Have a good day", "No problem" - from my point of view (as a born-Deaf bilingual), these phrases are English- or what English speaking people would say. We live in a hearing world- so it's natural that some of us incorporate “hearing” (English) into our signing. By the way, signing “fine” and “it was nothing” (two F handshapes) are a couple of different ASL ways you could sign in response to “thank you” instead of “no problem”. Hope this helps!! :)
@paramore45277 жыл бұрын
Oh I didn't know that! Thanks for clearing that up!!

so, what you're saying is that words like connectors, the ones you write in parenthesis are implied when signing? you don't really have to sig them?

I’m not deaf nor do I know anyone deaf/mute, but I’ve always found it fascinating how sign language works and how you learn this whole other language to communicate with. So I finally decided I wanted to learn more (I know basic sign language but forgot a lot of it), just in case I ever do run into someone who might be deaf or mute.
