humans tend to severely underestimate all sorts of animals brain capacity, alot of predatory animal are etxtremely intellingent.... constant hunger in the wild dictates these animals must constantly kill eachother... enter the human who keeps them very well fed and it will surprise you what other animals they will bond with - the same no brain killer instinct exists within humans when they are not well fed...

LuckyDucky Girl2000 the owl was displaying grooming behavior. especially with its beak. see how it was going for the dog's ears and the back of its head? Those are kinda hard for most animals to reach, and one of the things birds and mammels have in common is bonding/grooming type social behaviors.

Does it matter where the owl or the dog come from I wonder? My attention is caught briefly by a comment that mentions the owl is obviously a pet. Well,so is the dog. Watching the video,what strikes me is the simple beauty of seeing 2 dissimilar species not only getting along,trusting each others' company,but also allowing for a sharing of grooming and/or giving/receiving of what we two-legged call Love. The owl has more sense than the dog owner, the owl is taking off fleas or ticks and the dogs hair is matter terribly, leading to infection and other problems. If you can't care for your dog give it up! Buy one of those $10 mitts with the little nubs and rub him/her out daily at least once, takes 5 minutes.

Imprinted: an animal bonded to another animal, viewing them as a companion or parent. Of course the owl is imprinted, but as long as it isn't getting released there's nothing wrong with that. Considering that this owl is being raised for falconry, this isn't tragic at all. You need falconry birds to have good manners, unless you want them attacking their owners and fellow pets. arachnophilegrrl, please check your sources before you type an ignorant comment.

Owls may just be the coolest damn animal around. I just seen one out back (led me to this video) that swooped in and perched up on a light pole. The wingspan on the guy had to be at least 6 feet yet I never heard a sound as it came in and landed. It stood there for a few minutes looking around at every little sound then took off again without a sound. What a perfect predator. Just look at the talons on the little guy in the video, beautiful!
