Many do not realize how consequential Aquastar was in the realm of dive watches in the heyday of the 1960s. Aquastar was owned by the Robert family which also owned Jean Richard. One of the principal managers of Aquastar was family member Frederic Robert, an engineer, diver and explorer. When Omega wanted to get the dive watch project which culminated in the Seamaster Ploprof 600 introduced in 1969 at a trade show and first offered for retail sale in 1971 over the goal line, Omega hired none other than Frederic Robert of Aquastar. The Aquastar heritage is impeccable and Aquastar was in fact a giant in the dive watch space. Rick Marai who revived Aquastar is the very same person who revived Doxa over a period of 20 years until his contractual relationship with the Jenny family (the owners of Doxa) expired. Collector turned watch entrepreneur and brand revivalist, Rick Marai is incapable of producing a mediocre watch. He turned Doxa from a dead brand to a powerhouse based upon his insistence not just on historical authenticity but on great build quality. To those who might think that Aquastar is just another microbrand, you will find that the build quality of the Marai Aquastar meets or exceeds the build quality of major brands.

Which other brands has he revived? I know he is behind Synchron also. Synchron seems to of made some homage doxa designs, military dial and such..

I'd rather buy this than a BB54. It looks great!

I was looking at my collection the other day and realized the majority of my watches are either vintage style or reissues. I guess you could say I have a "type"! lol I guess it's no surprise that I really like the Aquastar as well!

From a distance it looks quite a simple skin diver design but under macro it's very sharp. Lovely finishing and the lacquer dial is gorgeous

One thing I’ll ding it for is the caseback. Why does it say “deepstar” when it is not a deepstar? Well, the answer is cost savings and recycling excess casebacks from their other watches. I get it, but on a reissue watch I think it’s a bit of a miss.

I prefer what Zodiac did with the 53 skin; updated the vintage design in subtle but interesting ways. This one is not only just plain looking but at that price, i'd expect a bit more from the all printed dial design.

Such a cool Seiko 62mas homage. 😉

Haha it predated the 62mas by 7 years

I'm sorry, but I'm not satisfied with it. On a watch in this price range I expect the crown to be flawless as well as the clasp which is instead very crude.

looks cheap to me - 500 dollar ok, but not 1000 - and - it has only 12 month guarantee.
