The scuba dude setup! I have a Suunto button clip on compass on my Marathon and surprisingly it still points north even though the steel case of the watch is in close proximity. Shawn Ryan says on his podcast that you dive with a dive computer and a full sized navboard, but if you do have to cut away all your more capable tools to get out of an entanglement, the dive time bezel will get you to the surface and the button compass will get you back to the boat.

Hi Jody! What I don’t understand - why is there a fault patina on the hands and indices but the date wheel is pure white? 🤔 If a company pretends, their brand new re-issued 60 years old watch should look as it have been sitting on a windowsill for a couple of decades, they should have given the dial and the date wheel a patinated look as well! Best wishes, Claus

Thanks for featuring this watch. I enjoy faithful 1:1 reissues and this one is pretty good. The price is a real issue though. I realize they need to make a profit and return on their investment but it still seems a little steep. Seems fine for an authentic reissue, although interesting that their other models include Swiss made on the dial.. Next one needs to upsize to 39mm (even with the lug length), loose the date wheel fauxtina, and keep the price the same. Then it might be an option.

@danielleavitt5411 Жыл бұрын
From what I have read, that LJP movement is based on Miyota 9000 series architecture, with the main plate somewhat thicker to match cases designed for the 2824. It is a good looking watch! I do use a compass like that for one thing: if you put it on top of your watch, you can tell it has been magnetized. So my compass sits with my demagnetizer.

This review is spot on. I have one and love it. I try and get as close as I can to historic dive watches through reissuances or modern interpretations w/o the risk of buying vintage originals. I like the use of modern materials and getting a watch in pristine condition. I can understand, though if the historic connection is not important, some folks will pass due to the cost. Movement gains just 1-2 seconds a day- happy with that. I feel the same way about Doxas- not perfect and pricey, but connected with dive watch history.

For someone new to the Aquastar journey, this is pricey little number. But its spot on heritage wise and quite a nice looking watch. As ever, great review. Nice, but a shame they didn't update the recreation with a unidirectional bezel - I mean, they increased the size, so it's not like for like anyway and with a bidirectional, a bit dangerous to dive with!. So what is it the 'like for like' of? A '50s Jean Richard 'Aquastar' worn by Don Walsh on Trieste (carrying a Rolex on the outside, but dive timing equipment and Picard's watch, all Longines) in '60, that was updated in 1960 (in celebration?) by his son Frederic who would go on to rename 'Jean Richard' 'Aquastar' in '63 seems to be about it!

I have a Seiko diver that has a nice patina, of course living in a sunny place, it might happen faster than normal. What I wonder about, looking to the future is how bad will a fauxtina lume get, after it gets a patina on top? I imagine the answer will be no lume at all.

I got a question... Is the link you posted to the Pagani store the real official one? I assume so! My questions is... There is another company with a very similar name that is still selling their older models. Is the other company that says its an outlet for Pagani legit and selling older models or is it just a fake company? I was not able to find the 1701 on the express store you listed with matching color wheel when you chose a black face. They have less watches and don't sell the 1701 with matching date window? Was the 1701-v3 with color matched date window a fake of an homage all along?

I do love vintage re-issues, but at this price it’s a no go for me. The logo might be original, but now it looks like Seestern! And Seestern have very similar cases with their 62MAS homages which have gone through several iterations and sizes to almost perfection now. The LGP movement is nice. I’d like to see that is more Microbrands. But it is still just a suped-up Miyota 9-series architecture.
