My favorite Shyamalan movie! No one can play devastation like Mel Gibson, and that dinner table scene will always get to me. He's a man terrified for his family and is struggling to hold it together, but he knows he has to for all their sakes despite everything thrown at him; and his son announcing his hatred for him is the blow that momentarily breaks him. Incredible performnances all around.
@michaelshelton8802Ай бұрын
I feel like you missed a lot... He lost his faith because on a stretch of road with no one else. Around a man simply falls asleep at the wheel and hits his wife. The only thing around. He finds his faith again. Not because god spared his son, but because his wife in her dying moments told him to see meaning see the signs... and then told him, to raise his children so that they would be how they were which led them to the exact scenario that ended up saving them with the daughter, leaving her water everywhere with the son learning and reading and being curious about everything. And with his brother always swinging away, which gave him the home run record bat mounted on the wall... And the exact thing to say to him in the moment when the alien had his son. And he realized at the end that there was a reason why his son had Asthma. It was given to him by god, not to make him suffer, but so that when the aliens would try to gas him, his lungs would be closed, and therefore, he would survive. Only when he realizes that all of that had to be put into place well before his wife told him in her dying breath, the plan for the future that would save them, did his faith return.

You can come up with all kinds of concoctions and theories as to how to deal with the unknown such as alien invasion and how to kill them or what their weaknesses are, (which you have no clue of), at the end of the day this movie proves to be a metaphor of the human condition and how we deal with things as they happen in real time.
@NatPat-yj2orАй бұрын
Bullshit. Sorry pal but you are a beta. An alpha (and some sigma) males like Devin and myself would be fighting these things. We don't have the weak beta genetics that would make us cower around like idiots. You can lay on the floor and cry, but I'll be fighting to the death. I don't have it in my soul to act like a stupid beta coward like Mel Gibson's character. If it was me, I would have my DeWalt impact driver and drill, and I would be taking the biggest wood screws I have and the strongest wood in the house. I would rip the drywall off and cut the 2x4 and 2x6 wall studs out and use the high tensile 5 inch beam and deck screws, and barricade myself and my family in the basement or the best possible room. The doors and windows would have multiple layers of wood and sheet metal. I'd weld some rebar into a cage and bolt that down over the wood too. I would have flashlights, candles, batteries, water, food, and weapons. All my knives, my guns and ammo, my hatchet, axes, baseball bat, golf clubs, pool table balls, my carpentry tools - power tools, hammers, saws, nail guns, framing claw hammers, chisels, screwdrivers, crowbars, wrenches, gardening tools, my chainsaw, and all the medication, and I would be mag dumping and burning through every last round of ammo for every gun I have. Then I would start using a chainsaw and nail guns.

DITTO to this comment. It's easy on the outside looking in. But in real time, we don't know how we would respond until we are in the moment. Imagine being hampered with grief also in this scenario - One of my favorite movies

Devin once again misses the point of a movie. The whole movie was about there being no coincidences and everything happens for a reason. The little girl had a hang up with water and left water glasses everywhere, allowing there to be a ton of water to use against the alien. The boy had asthma, so he couldn’t breathe in the poison easily. The younger brother had both the home run record and the strike out record, because he had a feeling he always needed to swing. So there was a trophy bat ready for use as a weapon. The mother saw into the future to tell her husband what needed to be done.

As a Brazilian, this movie at the time made us believe that was real lol In Brazil we speak Portuguese, we are a Portugal ex-colony, not Spain, but because we are surrounded by Spanish speaking countries, American movies always portray Brazilians speaking Spanish, and they don't sound the same lol we are so used to this that when an American movie puts a Brazilian speaking in a PERFECT PORTUGUESE, everyone got shocked 😂 The director came recently to Brazil for his new movie and he took a pic with a fan with a sign saying: THANKS FOR THE CHILDHOOD TRAUMA and the alien pic at the birthday scene ❤

Please watch this movie again alone without the camera and in silence. Your anxiety was heightened so much throughout the whole show and you missed a lot. This movie is phenomenal and shows all of us how signs in our atmosphere show us or help us with things that are here or coming. This is a great movie and so many people miss what is intended.
@slchance8839Ай бұрын
I think you watched this movie PRE-DISPOSED to thinking it's a "horror" movie for Halloween. You went into it thinking "people are going to die and what would **i** do to survive." If that's your intro to the movie, then you're right about the bad plot decisions: they should have bought guns, gotten into their car, and drove someplace else. BUT....if you watch this movie cold, with no idea what genre it is, like a lot of us did (it wasnt marketed as a Halloween scary movie), then you quietly unravel the subplot (where the your question evolve: pranksters? ghosts? depression and hallucinations? aliens!) and the main plot (Faith vs REAL uncertainty). Not expecting jump scares, your heart unexpectedly jumps out of your skin, lulled into thinking it's the story of a broken farmer too soft too curse raising children too lost without mom, with a brother too simple to make it big, against the backdrop of lonely middle america.

If you can cut them with a kitchen knife, why aren't you telling all of your rural neighbors? Like there aren't any guns in the whole county? If that's the case, everyone hole up at the high school or some other public space and form a perimeter.

The thing I always hated about this movie is why would an alien race that is hurt and even killed by water land on a planet made of mostly water?? LoL. And it also makes zero sense that if a glass of water melts their skin that badly then they wouldn't even be able to leave their craft at all. There's water in the air all the time especially in a Midwest farm area and walking through the corn field would have drenched them in water almost anytime of day except a few hrs in the afternoon when the dew would evaporate.the aliens would feel pain the second they leave their craft and would be dead within hrs on 85% of the planet.maybe they could take over the desert where maybe half of 1 percent of Earth's population can be found lol.this movie tries to be clever but misses it by miles lol.the girl leaving water really didn't matter much because the brother could've killed it with just the bat and most men could done it with or without playing B League baseball ..oh the boy has asthma so he didn't breath the gas,but if he didn't have asthma they would've Never left the basement that fast and they would have survived any damn way😂 the whole concept is idiotic with that being said the acting is top teir with less talented actors this movie would be a total joke a straight to dvd..m night is sooo overrated he has maybe 2 actual good movies and he supposed to be known for these great twist but he only did a great twist 1 time in 6th sense.hes properly the most overrated director in history
