Be careful ⚠ Attributing everything to the gut is a slippery slope. I've seen many people chase gut health because they were 100% convinced that other symptoms were rooted in the gut. But there are other important things that can contribute to unwanted symptoms. Stress, sleep quality, exercise (or lack thereof), nutritional adequacy, and toxic exposures, to name a few. Unfortunately, in recent years, everyone is screaming "all disease begins in the gut" so loudly that many of us forget about these other aspects of health. Also, remember that non-specific symptoms like fatigue and brain fog wind up on EVERY symptom list. For example, they can be symptoms of Iron deficiency, B vitamin deficiency, hypothyroidism, "adrenal fatigue," stress, or virtually any inflammatory and/or autoimmune processes. We don't want to mislead people into thinking that everything can be remedied via the gut. I'm passionate about it, but even gut health isn't the whole enchilada.

Pretty sure he's talked about stress, sleep etc in other episodes/podcasts. Also, the deficiencies you mentioned are often a result of... bad state of.tour microbiome.

@@davidtsw I wholeheartedly disagree. I analyze the diet of every person I work with and I can assure you most are not consuming enough of these nutrients. Always assume inadequate intake before jumping to fancier things like the microbiome or malabsorption.

I'm pleased to hear you say that our understanding of gut microbiome is in its infancy because that's not the impression you usually give when you're attributing pretty much everything to the gut microbiome.

For 40 years I struggled with severe gut issues untill I met an Ayurvedic physician! Within a week everything was ok and ever since I have perfect bowlmovements. Her advice like you often say more greens, beans legumes very small ammounts of fish, meat, but no fermented foods. All depends on your dosha constitution according to a 5000 year old and recognized health system. Maybe it's worth to make a podcast on this subject.

0:09: 🧪 A healthy gut is important for fighting disease, providing energy, and boosting mood, and can be identified by a good balance of microbes. 3:40: 🔑 The gut microbiome is connected to various aspects of human health beyond digestion, including food intolerances and bowel movements. 6:43: 😔 Toilet training can evoke feelings of shame and failure, leading to concerns about traumatizing children. 10:06: 🦠 Dysbiosis is an imbalance in the bacteria in the digestive tract, resulting in a lower diversity of beneficial gut microbes and an increase in inflammatory or non-beneficial gut microbes. 13:47: 🔬 The speaker discusses the importance of validating gut microbiome testing in a clinical setting. 16:43: 🌱 Taking steps towards a healthier gut through diet and lifestyle choices is essential for human health. 19:48: 🔍 The speaker finds the results of a study on gut transit time fascinating, particularly the connections between gut transit time, microbiome, and cardiovascular risk. How was the blue muffins made in terms of ingredients like white flour or I know the yeast, gluten and sugar surely has in it again just not good for our gut. .Is it not better then just eat lots of fruit like blueberry.? But for me this podcast was very beneficial as I struggle with chronic migraine and I was surprised to hear that unhealthy gut can cause migraine. Thank you ZOE for putting up extremely useful videos. I joined to ZOE since " COVID". and I like the way the presenter rups up at ends. It's not that easy. Prof. Tim Spector's son reduced 40% of his gut microbiome's variety by eating McDonald's only for 10 days straight. It took 3 years for him to recover, and he is Tim Spector's son! It would be much harder for any of us to recover.

Isn't the color blue a toxic chemical? Why couldn't we just use Activated Charcoal? I have used it in the past and found it is dark black going in (capsule form) and my stool turns dark black and very noticable when it comes out the other end. Plus it is great for absorbing toxics we consumed. It is my understanding that charcoal has been used for centuries in removing toxics or poisonings.
