When serving yourself an item dig to the bottom where it's the hottest. I've worked in many restaurants before, and all I can say is Never go with the fish (unless fish is the specialty). As for buffets, not all are bad. The one I worked at for two years was great on some days, and bad the other days. It all depends on the staff. Most Saturday nights everything was clean and stocked, Sunday mornings were terrible, nothing was being stocked, everything was over cooked, but as soon as midshift and night shift got in, we fixed everything right up. It all depends on the staff
@monkeyman24075 жыл бұрын
Well said. Sunday brunch is forever a "no - go" for me, basically the D - squad, repakaged leftovers from that week & employees that are in trouble for calling in sick on Friday night. I live & worked in restaurants on the Gulf Coast, so our guests could typically have a more devil may care attitude regarding seafood (unless it's the special - then avoid it like the plague unless you're dining in a seafood restaurant - like you said.)

in my 54 years on this planet, I don't recall ever getting food poisoning at a buffet or any restaurant. I've had lousy low quality food that I didn't want to have more than one serving of sure. I grew up in the restaurant biz, and in later life ran food and beverage operations. my standards were always high, never had poisoning outbreak and no one sick to my knowledge. I wonder sometimes when I hear individuals complaining time and again about every place making them sick that it's really most!y am problem with their own digestive process and general health. of course food poisoning does happen, I just think it's fairly rare in truth and more to do with compromised health and other cross contamination not really due to the restaurant.

More signs of a bad buffet...... 1. Skin over gravy, pudding, etc 2.Wilted Lettuces 3. Blotchy white guys sneezing over the sneeze guard 4. Unruly kids standing over the food pointing at things they want while touching the food with their little dirty fingers(I love kids not their germs) 5. Staff pushing old food to the back of the pan and putting the new food in the same pan and then putting old food back on top instead of swapping out the pan altogether. 6. Fish that looks like it's hard like a rock 7. Staff not replacing food fast enough 8. Staff that stares at you with an attitude as you're dishing up your food 9. Food dropped on and around the pans and not cleaned up fast enough 10. Staff packing up food in personal containers in front of customers or chewing as they work. Those are my top 10...But I'm sure there's more and that's why I don't eat out much.

I actually went to a culinary school that went over business management as well. They prepared us for buffets. One of the major things about buffets is that they tend to place the items from the cheapest from the most expensive. Hence why buffets usually start off with salad or cheaper items and then go to the most expensive things, like meats and desserts. fun tips :)

Try eating at a buffet on a cruise ship when there’s been a disease alert on a recent cruise ship from the same port. They spray your hands with disinfectant before you enter the dining area and watch while you rub your hands together. Then you carry your plate up to the buffet and tell them what you want and they dish it out for you. You’re not allowed to use the tongs or pick up a sugar packet or touch anything. I got yelled at for picking up a box of cereal because no one was standing there. Mashed would’ve have approved. When the all clear was given, it was strange to do things for myself. But no one on my ship had stomach related illnesses!

I remember when Golden Corral 1st came out, they were unbelievably delicious and a lot of fun but now it's like a convenience store/gas station buffet Lol. Most fast food joints and restaurants used to be Delicious way back in the 1970's but now all restaurants have gone down the toilet. You have to pay a BIG bill at a nice restaurant if you want a decent plate of food nowadays. I actually still remember as a kid when Burger King, Subway and Pizza Hut was very good quality food in the early 70's. I remember when Subway made your subs fresh, made-to-order. The man at Subway sliced the meat fresh right in front of you from a meat slicer and Burger King actually tossed your hamburger meat on a real fire flame grill. Anyone remember when Pizza Hut's pizza cheese actually used to stretch out about 6-8 inches? Nowadays they put Trisodium Phosphate in your breakfast cereal and no one cares. They don't even hide the poisons they put in your food now bec they know people are so dumb down from the media & internet. You can google all the poisons they put in your food and the food companies won't even deny it. Lol. They know you are SO goddamn stupid you'll just eat it with a smile anyways. Lol.

I work at a buffet and although we try to (most of us) keep everything clean and all that, there’s so many instances where people drop the germ filled tongs or large spoons into the food and and employee takes it out, doesn’t replace it, and all those germs are then in the food. Sooo gross, or when people skip using the spoon or tong and instead use their hand (usually touching the surrounding food as well).

Can you make a video about Golden Corral, Cici's Pizza, and similar buffets?

Trays and thongs should be change every 4 hours at least, and spoons for rice should be in hot water all the time according to Health Department.
@bigshepherd31275 жыл бұрын
So if the waitresses change thongs every 4 hours, does that mean the waiters change briefs every 4 also?

Which buffet serves food with thongs??? LOL! Mmm, love that crotch musk. Adds a great flavor to the macaroni and cheese

That’s the “least of health food laws!” Ha! Worked in hospitality over 35 yrs & food needs to be kept “hot” & salads “cold!” Throw out after so much time( not left out or recycled). I do not eat at buffets..”PERIOD!”🤣

MIA employees? Yep, hilarious! I’ve seen pre-chewed samples (kid eats it, puts it back), mother brushing 2yo kid’s hair near open ice cream cart (with loose diaper. & kid let loose), “special chicken with tail”, etc. there are many good buffets. But when things go bad, its unbelievable!!

Last Sunday, we ate at Pizza Hut in a small Nebraska town. The staff encouraged us to have the buffet. That was a terrible mistake. I decided on the "healthy" option of just building a salad. The cauliflower turned out to be moldy, the lettuce was wilted, Since the salad ingredients were spare, I thought a slice of pizza would be a good way to fill me up. There were few selections worth considering. There was plenty of dessert pizza (which is meh to me) and a big bowl of chocolate pudding. There is always chocolate pudding at Pizza Huts. I've sworn off the buffet at Pizza Hut. I like their to order pizzas, so they will be the only selections from now on.

I am sure that people have gotten sick from eating "old" food on buffets. I am also sure that I have never seen a sign such as, "this food was placed on the buffet at X:XX oclock". You are implying that everything on the buffet is a potential hazard if you are worried about when it was put out. I guess the only sure way to know is to get there at opening time and you will have an idea. You still will not know how long it sat in the kitchen. Better to leave buffets alone if you are of that mind set, I am not.

There's a chinese/Italian/Japanese buffet near where I live that looks better than 90% of the clips in this video. Nice atmosphere, staff frequently changing the food trays, sneeze guards... barely ever see kids there and certainly not running amok. Guess I dodged a bullet with my local buffets...

My late father was a meter reader for a Toronto utility. That was back in the days when all meters were inside, usually in basements. He had numerous horror stories about Chinese restaurants, especially those around the Spadina/Dundas area. He saw (in no particular order) lice flying around, various "critters" crawling over crates of vegetables, pails used a toilets, rats and mice (dead and alive), even a dead cat. I'll assume the cat was the next day's Chef's Special. You never know what goes on "behind the counter."
@brianpan64536 жыл бұрын
I can beat that. When I lived in Florida, a Chinese restaurant (not buffet) was shut down when health inspectors found two garbage cans in back filled with cat skeletons. Well, how do expect they are going to pay little Chinyung Fat's college education? [TRUE STORY]

the buffet sneeze guard is a bunch of bull .i was getting my bubble tea the other day and they serve ice cream with all the toppings you serve yourself and a mother and kid walked in , and the kid was admiring the toppings and coughed all over the front section of toppings and from the sound of that cough he had a infection!!!!! so being said that sneeze guard does not accomodate the lil ones or the protection of food!

Huh the Old Country Buffet in my town changes the tongs with each new dish brought out. They often have less out during slow times I've noticed (like smaller portions left out) and you can bearly get your arm under the glass. Hey they hit every good mark.

Other hints: 1) if no steam coming from around the serving pan or your first bite of food isn't hot, DON'T EAT! Food isn't at proper temperature to be safe to eat. You're risking food poisoning. 2) piling new food on top of old instead of changing out the whole pan. 3) more food spillage around the containers and counters that is old/crusty. Also, bits of food from other containers in wrong containers (most often from people using the same utensil from one container to another).

Actually there is a rule that says u have to change out serving utensils & tongs. Serving utensils that are in constant use are to b changed out every 2 hours, and if they are not constantly in use it’s every 4 hours. That’s according to the fda. And managers are supposed to take a class on stuff like that, as well as there supposed to b at least one person (manager/crew leader etc) in the building that possesses safeserv in the building at all times.

4:25 One of my local Chinese buffets was closed 2 decades ago for health code violations. 2 years ago another Chinese place down the street, the one that took all the business from the other, close after 2 decades of operation because of low attendance due to low quality food (though no health issues...supposedly). The two were about two miles apart. A year ago, smack dab in between where the two Chinese buffet places had been, a JAPANESE Buffet and Hibachi opened up. I'VE NEVER SEEN A BUFFET THIS GOOD (No, not even Olde Country Buffets are as good) so I hope this one stays. It MIGHT because it's only GAINING customers since it opened and I'm not joking when I say the buffet puts the other 2 now closed Chinese places, as well as my closest Olde Country Buffet, TO SHAME. Constantly keeps the food fresh. You drop a set of tongs a kitchen staff member yells out to you "Do nota puts that back in thar!" Picks it up and brings a new one and sneeze guards are only 6 inches. One downsize though? No labels! You can ask the attendant but...Hey most are things you know anyway...MOST.

The icecream is unique cos theres butterscotch, cookies and cream, mango, vanilla, strawberry, greentea, strawberry, glutton free, oreo, twist icecream machine where u can mix any icecream flavour 2 flavours max. The reception is like 7/10 not the best but not the worst. Overall, it's an 11/10 experience
