The fact that he can almost touch his knee caps when standing upright probably helps a lot

I really like the idea of shin forward. A lot of people talkrd to me in the gym and asked about why i am not using a vertical shin

Having arms damn near twice his torso length probably doesn't hurt either.

Can you look at Brendan Tietz lifts, specifically deadlift. He’s super strong and has a narrower more toes out stance.

Do you recommend having an open chest and looking forward for deadlifts?

Is this form applicable as a taller lifter (6’3)?

I would be interested if you could analyze Brian Shaw's deadlift technique. I have a hard time keeping a neutral spine when I use a close stance and high hips and this results in pain for me. Modeling Shaw's lower hips and wide stance does the opposite for me and generates no lower back pain but never seen anyone else do it.

How important is slack pulling in your opinion? I feel like it’s way better for me if I don’t pull slack just blast the barbell off the floor like Ben does

It seems like one of those things that comes into vogue every so often, to me at least. Personally, as some who lifts because I enjoy it, I think it’s down to personal preference.

If you look closely he does take the slack out
@sikastrength
@sikastrength 3 ай бұрын
Generally if you get the right start position and tightness the slack takes care of itself. The use of a very whippy bar might be some special attention.
@HowIPartedTheRedSea
@HowIPartedTheRedSea 3 ай бұрын
I'd say something to consider - if the bar leaves the floor the slack is pulled. Whether you set up to slowly pull that slack and once its firm then go, or go with something more akin to what you're describing, the slack is pulled out of the bar.

I feel like people that round their back a lot will need to pull the slack first to get into that compromised position before pulling with full force
@FatboyP4wz
@FatboyP4wz 3 ай бұрын
If you want a big deadlift you need a back that is strong enough to be able to round Thats the most important factor by far Safe rounded back = smaller moment arm = bigger lift AND less disk stress

When I increased my squat with 10 kg, my deadlift (and front squat) increased by 10 kg automatically without even training deadlift. Before I saw a video with Pete Rubish where he explained that when you go over 80% in a squat, you don't train as much legs anymore but you train the lower back the most.

Idk about toes straight in front. It helps use your glutes more, which is a bigger advantage than the knees closer to the bar

The way I was taught is you set up with your feet in a position where you would get the most distance on a broad jump so it's going to be where your feet are going to be able to drive the most force into the ground which naturally will have your toes forward

@sikastrength how about toe angle for high bar squatting?
@sikastrength
@sikastrength 3 ай бұрын
Generally, toes out is better because you run into a wall with the mobility with toes straight forward. Toes out let's you sit your hips in closer to the heels which the toes forward blocks for most people

Yeah, almost nobody can mimick this guys technique. Extremely short torso and long arms is the top tier deadlift build.

My ape index is almost 1 (174-ish wingspan at 171-ish height). I lift roughly like this, these days. Learning to use my lats is what fixed it after 15 years of pulling like a caveman.
