@abseiduk I'm a Malayali Indian. I was born in 1984. When I studied what India's government did in 1984 in Harmandir Sahib and the subsequent 10 years in Punjab to suppress Sikh sepatism, I was utterly disgusted by what India did. The kiddnapings, the fake encounters and the extra judicial killings by Punjab's police force itself! I don't know how Sikhs can get justice for this. India did all this for the sake of keeping "the union" together. We had been partioned before in 1947 where we lost a big chunk of Bengal in the east and Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh and Kasmhir in the west, all because of the British. India mercilessly suppressed the Sikh Separatism to prevent another partition. I am a South Indian hindu but I go to Gurudwara and occasionally read Sikh prayers and try to follow Gurmat teachings. My honest opinion for Sikhs in Punjab looking for justice for what happened from 1984 to 1995 is this: spread Sikhi to other Indians in other states and take over India. Britain prevented Sikhi spreading throughout India when the ruled us. They kept Sikhi as a punjabi religion, but it's not just for punjabis. It's an Indian dharam that is meant for the whole world. So spread Sikh teachings to Telugu Indians, Tamil Indians, Bengali Indians, Kannadiga Indians, Marathi Indians, and Goan Indians. Do more pachaar in India, spread Sikhi to all Indian states and take over India and then get justice. I as a Malayali Indian would totally welcome that. There's so much corruption in India and Sikh teachings are an important guiding force for all Indians.

I know a lot educated Punjabi Sikh people who have engineering, lawyer, doctor, and other professional jobs. Too be fair they mostly got their Masters and PHD degrees from outside of Punjab. But most of them got their Bacholer degree from Punjab.

GagzGrova Thats true but drug problem is everywhere in India. Yes there more in Punjab, but every government is corrupt in India. The indian government only benefits the high caste Brahmin Hindus. Sikhs are not the only who discriminated against. Sikhs are the few or possibly the only one stand up for their rights, so that why the Indian government tries to finish them. Those Indians that Jagraj talks about who come to the west for "programing jobs" come from rich families or their parents are politicians. Only the villages schools in Punjab and the rest of India have a bad education system. If you go to the city schools the education system there is ok. Only a school in a Indian village will have a teacher not showing up for class. Indian only the rich people get good qaulity education. I know Punjabi Sikh who come from rich families and the went to the finest universities in Punjab and India and they have good professional jobs in Canada and the US.

I agree the problem is wide spread and not just limited to Sikhs. India is a money run country, where poor have no equal rights. However, after the ninth Guru gave up his life to save the Hindu religion followed by many sacrifices given by the Sikh community, the least one expects is equality if not more. They have Sikh prisoners who have served 18 years(more than life imprisonment) and now they're suggesting to hang them? And to think Sikhs fought for these kind of people disgusts me.

Yes, I'm hoping for AAP to flourish and give the Sikhs their rights, but time and time again we have witnessed throughout history that you have to stand up for your right and take it rather than wait for others to give it to you. Sikhs are a community who used to 'give' justice to people, they used to stand up to oppression. The Muslim refugees who came from Jullundur, Ludhiana, Gurdaspur etc. spoke the Punjabi dialects of those regions. Several corrections to his statements: 1. Indira Gandhi's husbands name was Feroz Gandhi (a parsi) 2. The federal tax rates are same through out India. if the State taxes are higher in Punjab than in other states, that is Punjab government's fault. That money in any case goes to the Punjab government not to federal government. 3. The government declares a "minimum support price" for crops, not a maximum price. If the government was not to declare a minimum support price, the prices of food grains would fall, not rise.

As far as I know, Sikhs were the least group ( religion wise) to suffering under the British. The British admired their loyalty and bravery, that's why they were recruited in their army in large numbers. In 1857, Sikh support to British was essential in suppressing the revolt.

A lot of points are debatable. A committee was set up for the Nehru, Patel Saab, and Menon regarding the partition of states according to languages. It has a lot of history. the Idea was not to divide the country on linguistic basis in order for it to survive the diverse culture. Gujrat and Maharashtra were a single state till 1960 under Bombay province similarly the Madras province and various other states. Initially, there were barely 12 states in India before 1956 states reorganization act after Andhra state was created for Telegu speakers due to constant protests. Later various states were created on linguistic basis and Punjab got its share out of it. I don't know what you have to gain out of it but you my friend are creating a contentious environment in an otherwise peaceful region.

All i know is Buddhism,Hinduism,jainsim,sikhism are peaceful who needs to stand united. What are you talking about. Saffron is the colour of Sikhism Hinduism and a similar hue is of budhaism too. White is for Christians and green is Muslims. I don't know how true is you narrative about Hindi and Punjabi is but both are recognised national languages. What you don't tell is that almost all Indian languages are derived from Sanskrit. . Hindus and Sikhs are blood brothers and there are inter marriages between the both community's. And the Capital issue is an administrative thing. . We have had Sikh PM, ministers, chief justisices, Head of armed forces, economists. And Punjab has had Sardar CMs. Only standing issue is the 84 riots justice issues. Every country has issues that doesn't mean we start doing propaganda against it. . Remember USA Is great cuz they acknowledge their Jewdeo Christian heritage. By the way, Punjab is and was always allowed to create their own Capital City ... They wanted Chandigarh to be their Capital and Chandigarh was a planned created City by the Union Govt. and so giving it entirely to Punjab and cut off Haryana from it would have been an injustice to the people of Haryana. That was why Chandigarh was made a union territory so that both Punjab and Haryana could share it peacefully. Apart from this, there was a lot of misrepresentation in the speech about many things. Yes Punjabi Suba was late to come and so was many other states ... problem was that the Punjabis wanted the larger Punjab which included a lot of regions which had their own languages like Haryana, Himachal or even parts of Jammu to be made a Punjabi speaking state ... Democratic governments cannot take such autocratic decisions to satisfy a particular group of people, it has to create a consensus first in the populace which took 15 years to achieve a settlement and then Haryana and Himachal was carved out and Punjabi speaking state was created with official language Punjabi. And the saffron colour if at all associated with any empire, it is first associated with the Hindavi Swaraj empire of Marathas, a large India spanning Hindu Empire before the advent of the British. We Marathas defeated the Islamic/Mughal/Sultanes empire throughout India at least 8-10 times bigger than the Sikh Empire. Sikhs may have defeated the Mughals in their region of Punjab but the credit to uproot the Mughals from India goes to Maratha Empire and their vassal/subsidiary states. Then came the British which defeated all of us in the end ... And by the way, we Marathas defeated and weakened the Mughals way before there was even a Sikh empire existing anywhere in India. We paved the way for Sikhs to rise up and establish their empire defeating a weakened Mughal Empire. Sikhs are and were always a valiant and brave people but somewhere along the way, it seems that false pride has seeped into their hearts making them exaggerate even little things to the point it seems like before them Punjab didn't even exist. They keep forgetting that their history is not confined to just 500 years but for 5000 years. Since their advent Hindus have accorded great respect to Sikhs and treated them like Brothers but that seems to have made Sikhs think less of their brother Hindus. It's so unfortunate and should not happen. It is that respect that Hindus give which accords them a higher place in the society and boost their self-respect, otherwise, they are just another tribe in this global world, no better or worse than others ... That self-respect should not change into inflated egos due to false pride.... Many groups of people in this world have created far far greater long-lived kingdoms and exalted empires in this world and ruled over far larger populations influencing lives of a great many people ... By the way, there is an old saying that the worst kind of people are those who help others and .hen beat drums to the world to show it. It's far worse than not helping at all.
