07-17-2018 This is a 1962 Sikorsky S-58DT N9VY (cn 58-1519) named the "Screaming Mimi" from the eighties U.S. TV Series named Riptide (N698) and operated by Summit Helicopters Inc. out of the Whiteman Airport. I apologize for shooting into the bright sun. Thank You for Watching & Please Subscribe to my Channel. My Thumbnail taken from a different day with better lighting it's a shame I had to shoot towards the sun.
N9VY started out life as a US Marine Corps radial-engined HUS-1/UH-34D, and when it went to the civilian world was converted to turbine power using a pair of coupled Pratt & Whitney
PT-6Ts and received a new, extended nose to enclose the PT-6s.
The Sikorsky H-34 (company designation S-58) is a piston-engined military helicopter originally designed by American aircraft manufacturer Sikorsky as an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft for the United States Navy. It has seen extended use when adapted to turbine power by the British licensee as the Westland Wessex and Sikorsky as the later S-58T. H-34s served, mostly as medium transports, on every continent with the armed forces of 25 countries. It saw combat in Algeria, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and throughout Southeast Asia. Other uses included saving flood victims, recovering astronauts, fighting fires, and carrying presidents. It was the last piston-engined helicopter to be operated by the United States Marine Corps, having been replaced by turbine-powered types such as the UH-1 Huey and CH-46 Sea Knight. A total of 2,108 H-34s were manufactured between 1953 and 1970

I just happened to be thinking of the “Screaming Mimi” recently. I am delighted to see that she is still flying. I loved the show and actually saw her flying over the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles , CA when. I was a kid back in ‘84. Thank you for posting!

Yes she was retrofitted with a turbine. This is how she was though, I believe, when they made the show 'Riptide', although it's been painted and ne-numbered since then. It was N698 originally. I don't know why it was renumbered but it is the same one.

@@dannywilliamson3340 Helicopters equipped with rotor brakes can engage them and run engines at idle. Usually during VIP missions or medical patient transfers. It allows people to load in relative safety with the blades static, some helicopters can hold their blades static while the engines are on and in this case was totally up to the pilot.
