The Silas reveal is so good! The fact that Stefan is a doppelgänger as well as Elena is crazy. Nina gets a lot of credit (rightfully so) for playing such different characters but Paul Wesley doesn't get nearly enough credit for playing all the different versions of Stefan (human Stefan, vampire Stefan, vampire Stefan without humanity, Rippah Stefan) AND Silas! Also crazy that he took his true form several times and no one knew. Bonnie is so selfless bringing Jeremy back instead of resurrecting herself. The world doesn't deserve her. And I know Elena did it to save herself but I LOVE that Katherine now has to be a human, which is the opposite of what she wanted. To me that's worse punishment than death. Also, Caroline obsessing over graduation makes sense. Their lives are so chaotic and filled with everything supernatural and death that something as simple and HUMAN as a high school graduation is completely understandable. Also, while Damon has grown a lot, I agree with Bryce that there is no way in hell he would've handled that as well as Stefan. That must have been so hard for him to say. He's the superior brother for this exact reason. But I just really didn't care for Delena at this point AT ALL. "He's your first love. I intend to be your last, however, long it takes." - Klaus Mikaelson. Fascinating In S2, Elena ( and everyone under the sun ) , is horrified and upset when Damon forced his blood down her throat, to save her from being Klaus's doppleganger sacrifice. At this,Elena tearfully says to Stefan on the hilltop that Damon doesnt know what love is, hell, even she is too young to know what true love is. And now the roles are reversed. Damon refuses to take the cure to save his life. Alaric asks Stefan, What do you want me to do? Stand here? Watch him die? Or forcefeed him the cure??? And you see Elena in the back nodding yes very vigorously to this. !!!! And from the resounding slap she gives hin later, its so apparent that she's mad at him for not wanting to be saved. You get the impression, that had she been at that spot instead of Ric, she would have jammed the cure down Damon's throat forcibly !! My my. !! What a turnaround !! Now she gets what Damon felt then. Now she knows what true love is. And she has realized that when you truly love a person, you do everything in your power to save them, even against their wishes . Free choice in such a situation be damned !!!!! We've indeed come full circle. Fascinating stuff indeed by the writers.😢

They all pretend to be human. You don't reveal your biggest secret immediately to anybody. He literally allowed her to read his journals and ask him whatever she wanted. Damon doesn't care, as long as it's a Katherine bodysuit. He did treat them interchangeably anyway. Elena could have any personality.

After she turned she also said she can't live like this - so again, same logic. Stefan and Damon have always protected her, sometimes acting against her will. I like that you all appreciated immediately that “oh wow, they were teasing us with Silas’ true face for a while there.” Personally, I’m not a huge fan of Silas or the portrayal of him (I personally think he lacks nuance and that fandom overrates the performance out of a love for Paul), but it is a great reveal “hello my shadow self.” That being said, while there was an echo of the Sun and Moon curse disinformation in this season (how much cure there would be), Bryce is reading a little much into what Silas said about being the creator of immortality automatically meaning Qetsiyah had no part. (As to the question about someone mentioning communicating with Qetsiyah: it was Galen, and Connor and Alexander might have too??) Bonnie’s story here is totally tragic, and they dug it in with her dad’s pride and her speech (not shown here) to Kol. That being said, the continuation of that tragic tale is forthcoming in S5. Katherine doesn’t deserve the cure since others wanted it, but she deserves to lose her immortality since, as Elena pointed out, “regular level immortality isn’t enough for Katherine Pierce” (granted, after running from Klaus for 500 years, I can see the appeal in a more assured type of immortality). Elena was also right to offer the cure to Stefan- everyone (Stefan most of all, out of his sense of duty to her) was so single-minded in the idea of getting the cure for her, but she heard him say to Rebekah what the cure would mean to him, and being selfless Elena really did try to offer him the peace of mind she thought he deserved. (Also, Stefan’s two major lapses Bryce thought of- which I think is actually closer to 3 at this point- may be under control currently, but Stefan does live in constant fear of losing himself, and so much self-hatred and guilt). As to whether Damon would have been “happy” for Stefan were things the other way… I think he would have been devastated for himself, but he would have left as previously requested by Stefan (and as he did do for Stefan’s sake in the 1940s; though here despite the S3 conversation, the brothers can’t expect to reunite when Elena’s human life runs its course in 60ish years, which is a whole other hurdle). I don’t think it would have been smooth-sailing for Stelena in any way, though- Stefan still cares deeply for Elena/loves her, but he looks very differently at her post sire-bond. I do love that Elena gets to assert herself in this episode- she does love Damon, it’s not the sire bond. She does realize the risks and his flaws, but she also cares enough to fight for the chance they can make each other happy. Glad as I am that Klaus saved all of the mains in this episode, it is hecka annoying that Carol Lockwood was saying episodes ago that Tyler wouldn’t get to walk at graduation, and low and behold Tyler is deprived of his graduation (granted, unlike Caroline he had no family left to attend) and Klaus is still hailed as a romantic hero to Caroline, even while joking about the 12 hybrids he massacred (and not a word about how Caroline feels seeing the witches she killed to save Bonnie).

I love the Damon and Elena love confession scene. It is so them. So true to their relationship. No dreamy, romantic declarations of true (....uhh , 'epic' ..) eternal love, no flowers and roses. Just the raw truth and homesty of their feelings. Their hearts laid bare. Damon, once again , reiterating all his faults and his flaws and his bad selfish qualities to her. Emphasising how wrong he is for her, and saying he would never change just to win her love. And being unapolegetic to boot. Essentially giving her an out. And Elena ? Lays it out to him in just as blunt and brutal terms. That she is under no illusions about him.That she has no rose-coloured , blinkered image of his character. That she knows the "real" him,and how terrible he could be. But , bloody hell, he'd better deal with it , because she loves him and is NOT sorry for loving him, and isnt walking away this time. Beautiful. And like I said , raw honesty with each other. And the lovely parallel of Damon's anger at Elena choosing to die in S2,. and Elena's fury at Damon's refusal to take the cure to save himself . ..She slapped him good and hard ,for God's sake,😂😂. Killed maybe a thousand vampires- which every other main vampire on the show has shown an inclination to do for their own sake at some point, most of them in S3- in order to protect her younger brother from a Kol who was set on killing them if they did as Klaus was demanding of them, while Klaus was going to make them suffer if they didn’t (and continually put Jer’s life, and potentially sanity, in danger fighting numerous vampires). Maybe Jer’s mark would have been satiated with 100 vampires instead of 1000. The cure still wasn’t why Elena targeted Kol- it was because Klaus pressured first Stefan then Damon into turning Jeremy into a vampire-killing machine so he could cure Elena and turn her into his hybrid blood source again.
