Guys I got to see Stevie Ray Vaughn as a 18th birthday present from my dad. He skipped work and he had came up with some tickets and came by our house to pick me up and didn’t tell me where we were going until we got there. What an amazing memory. Thanks dad!!!

Stevie Ray IS the best guitarist ever. It took me awhile to come to the conclusion that he eclipses even the great Jimi Hendrix. He died in a plane crash in 1980. 😓 I live in Austin and there’s a larger than life bronze statue of Stevie Ray on Auditorium Shores in Zilker Park. Even though he was from Dallas, he became famous at Austin’s Antone’s. Now that says something. The guy is legendary.

Stevie also played the guitar behind his head and with his teeth. There is a video on Utube where he's playing the guitar with his teeth and loses a tooth. Another thing people don't often realize is that Stevie used such impossibly thick hard strings on his guitars that virtually nobody else could play them - you could literally cut meat with those strings. It helped him to achieve his incredibly powerful raunchy sound.

1. Always listen to the live performances whenever possible. 2. Don't miss different performances of the same song. SRV never learned to read music, and with every performance he would creatively improvise within the main structure of the songs, whether they were his own originals or direct covers or adaptations. By the way, his band is Double Trouble. Prior to 1985 it included bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton. In 1985 keyboardist Reese Wynans joined Double Trouble. They were all awesome, superb supports for Stevie Ray's guitar work and as his friends. SRV always insisted that the monies coming in from the gigs they had be split evenly between the four of them, even though he was perceived as the "headliner." SRV was truly humble in so many ways. He showed great respect and kindness for others. He always credited the great blues artists who came before him and Jimi Hendrix and other great guitarists and innovators who inspired him. You should check out his "Pride And Joy," "Dirty Pool," "Testify," "Cold Shot," "Riviera Paradise," "Couldn't Stand The Weather," and so many more. You can't go wrong with any song he's done. Some specific performances I'd recommend beyond those that others are sure to suggest are: -- "Look at Little Sister," at Austin, TX -- "Leave My Girl Alone," also at Austin -- "Oreo Cookie Blues," with one of his idols, Lonnie Mack, at The American Caravan -- "Superstition" (a very clever music video that covers the Stevie Wonder.song, and even has Wonder making a cameo appearance at the end of the video) -- "Lovestruck Baby"/"Rude Mood," at Daytona Beach, FL, where SRV is having a blast and dances as he plays the first song and rockets into a blazing fast performance of the second -- "Pipeline" with his brother Jimmie Vaughan, with them playing together on a double-necked guitar

Every song on that Texas Flood album is fantastic. . . and, you're right, Hendrix did that too . . . Hendrix was a big inspiration to SRV. Enjoyed the reaction, guys . . . thanks!

If he were a Buddhist, he’d have reached enlightenment. I’m paraphrasing, but when I heard that, I thought, ‘ -they GET it. Stevie just channeled the music through his guitar, and when he sings, you can see if he’s holding his strings to mute them, his hands will move when he sings. You FOUND the GOAT, and you should see and hear everything-then react to SRV w/guest Johnny Copeland performing ‘Tin Pan Alley’ at Montreax 1985. It’s a blues tune, but you’ll SEE how much SRV is one just ‘channeling’ his music.

Nobody flowed like SRV. Pleasure to see him with Jeff Beck in Worcester MA and he was indescribably good. Master of blues and he had so much more to show us. F--kin choppers took my only Uncle in '65 and Stevie in '90. Both outstanding humans.

Think Clapton stated he first heard SRV in his car on the radio and had to pull over. Then saw him live and almost felt depressed lol.

Stevie Ray was one of my husband's favorite musicians, so of course when he came to the DC area he was determined to see him in concert. We saw him at the Wax Museum, a 1000 seat concert venue. He was phenomenal.

The musicians being in sync is called "doing their job". In fact, how I would describe anybody on stage's performance, other than Stevie, would be "just chillin' ".

Check out “Life without you” live at the Capitol Theater. SRV definitely the GOAT
