Suppressors should not be difficult nor require all this crap. They are not a firearm themselves, and are a safety device that is REQUIRED in most European countries to hunt. This is one area we have it totally backwards, thanks to Hollywood BS creating a stigma. How many people have been shot with a suppressed firearm (ie assassination) - I haven't heard of one in 50 years. I am sure there are a few, but that tiny number indicates the lack of a true problem. But every time someone fires in self defense, they are certain to not have hearing protection on and thus suffer hearing loss from the 160db+ discharge.

Tyler Hammock I'd bet it could be pushed in a place of business ie indoor range. or even required with purchase of a firearm - some states mandate purchase of a lock under guise of safety.

Saxxonknight that's not an OSHA regulation, OSHA ONLY regulates rules in regards to businesses a private citizen outside of an employer is not required to abide by any OSHA rules or regulations. Indoor ranges are businesses, therefore are required to abide by OSHA rules, however privately owned ranges that are not intended to become a business are therefore not regulated by OSHA.

In the year of 2011, the United Kingdom had a violent crime rate of 3,100 per 100,000 residents while the United States had a violent crime rate of 380 per 100,000 residents. England and Wales has consistently had a signifgantly higher overall crime rate since 1980 and continued to be signifigantly higher after the Firearms Act of 1988 ("Assault" weapons ban). Following this legislation the overall crime rate spiked up to a staggering rate of nearly 11,000 crimes per 100,000 in 1991, while during the same year, in the US the overall crime rate was almost half of that ( 5,897 crimes per 100,000). This being said "Gun" crime in the UK did eventually drop far below the US, however this had absolutely no effect on the same crimes guns were being used to commit. This information leads me to conclude that gun control has no effect on crime, period. So why doesn't Parliament repeal it?...... *cough* tyrannical government *cough* *cough* making the people weaker so they can control them and take away the rest of their rights *cough*....

DeadValor, that's not entirely true. The UK defines "violent crime" much more broadly than the US does. Politifact did an article on that claim, and when adjusting for discrepancies they still found that the UK had a higher crime rate, albeit by a smaller factor of only 2:1 as opposed to the ~8:1 in yours.

Should have done my research. I thought the CLEO check was done after the ATF approved the Tax Stamp. Should have realized that was stupid. Also, if the CLEO denies the sale, can you challenge it or even go as far as to sue?

Sue? Lol Why would you be able to sue? The CLEO has authority, they get to make a decision, they don't have to sign crap! They have no obligation to OK it, and there is no "appeal." If there were, here is how things would go: *You*: "Here is my paperwork. Can I have a silencer?" *CLEO*: "Nope" *You*: "I'd like to file an appeal. I have all my paperwork in order and can legally own a silencer - so can I have a silencer?" *CLEO*: "Nope." You see, it's not a matter of whether you legally can or not, it's a matter of if they want to accept the liability of you owning one - and they don't. If you wanted to own a silencer here in FL, you would get a "no" every single time, so the only way for you to get one is by paying to set up a Gun Trust/NFA Trust. Through setting up a NFA Trust, you accept all liability for the ownership if it's used in a crime, so you can get around having to deal with your CLEO.
