I think the reason i add a suppressor to an airsoft gun is because the airsoft gun is silent. without it just feels weird to have a rifle make very little noise, with a mock suppressor it feels like i have a reason it sounds like that. And it looks cool as shit.

GBB actually sound quite authentic when fitted with suppressors. Like you say, the looks match the sound. Granted no where near as loud as a real suppressed but more like the movies, and who cares if it’s not like real suppressed anyway lol? I’m sure real firearms owners would really like them to sound film like too. It’s only meant to be fun.

Airsoft suppressors filled with foam do suppress the popping sound at the muzzle that is what enemies hear at distance. I don't use suppressors for pistols. I use them for my AEG with foam inside to make my gun inaudible.

Actually it does reduce the sounds of airsoft (tried on AEG M4 by G&P using QD silencer). Maybe not as significant as the suppressor that installed on real firearm, but it did work.

AEGs cannot be suppressed, seeing as how the noise is all gearbox. Only gas guns could be suppressed, but airsoft suppressors don't have suppressing capabilities, because that would require a 200$ tax stamp and ATF regulation.

I'd point out that you can buy actual suppressors for airsoft guns, and in things like high-pressure air or gas-powered guns they can indeed reduce the noise the gun makes, often by a considerable amount.

Ryan Grunsten He's been pimping airsoft guns for years. 10+ I think. He always takes gun down completely and then rebuilds whole thing. Powerful engine that can run effortlessly, proper shimming, progressive spring with rotating spring guide and seal everything well. Leaks are noisy and make gun inaccurate. P90 has stock filled with noise dampening mat that car stuff shops sell and I made suppressor to him few years back. Typical airsoft "suppressors" are nothing but empty cans and often make guns louder. If you have suppressor that you'd like to perfect here's some advice. It's not hard but it can go wrong. Short and thick suppressors work best and long, thin ones are more difficult/prone to problems. Get thin sheet of soft rubber foam and cut disks out of it. Half of them should have about 8-10mm holes and other half should have about 12-15mm holes. Alternate them until suppressor is full and put max few more to help them stay in place. Attach end cap back on and test. It's good idea to have quickly detachable suppressor as if BB hits insides it'll probably stay in. It could move disks around and clog whole thing.

People usually use suppressors to cover the inner barrel if they upgrade it or or get a shorter outer barrel. Putting a suppressor on an airsoft gun that doesn't need it to protect the inner barrel it really screws up accuracy.

Actually, I use a foam-filled supressor for my M16 dmr and it actually works. The sharp bang of the airflow and the piston hitting the front wall of the gearbox is a bit muffled. The main difference is that alot of the high-freq sound is muffled so you don't hear it as well. I can for example snipe 70m out without being heard at all by people in front of the barrel.

John Leighton Im not going to get mad at you, but you probably don't know much about real firearms. A silencer or suppressor _can_ mean the same thing, but they are completely different. There are attachments for the barrel in which does not eliminate the "gun shot" noise, but rather increases suppression. Then there are also attachments for barrels that eliminate a "gun shot" noise (that is what a silencer does) but does not affect suppression. Then lastly, of course, there are attachments that do both (in which are the most common since it is a 2-in-1 package) I hope this helps you understand. Don't get me wrong, you are right about them being the same thing.

AlphaDragonification Look buddy, a suppressor or silencer still the same thing, they only suppress the gasses escaping from the barrel. A suppressor has baffles which redirect the gasses from the cartage and slow them down so they are slower than supersonic speeds. The rest of a suppressed firearm is the ammunition, There is your standard ammunition types and there are subsonic ammunition. In theory yes you can eliminate the noise with a larger suppressor but they takes away from efficiency and accuracy and your bullet will tumble blah blah.. Although a suppressed 10/22 is almost 100% silent you can still hear the firing mech. In some cases you're right but in most you're absolutely wrong.

I put a silencer on my CM16 so I could fit a longer inner barrel in it. Also took the stock outer barrel of with the triangle sigt so the silencer sits flush against the heat shield making it look much cleaner.

If the suppressor is baffled properly It removes a significant amount of directional sound from the people that are being shot at. The sound traveling at your enemy is reduced so you are undetected for 1 or 2 extra shots

A silencer extends the range of the BB which is the MAIN reason they are used on airsoft, especially if you swap out the inner barrel with an extended one, then put the silencer on to cover the inner barrel.

In theory you can put an extender barrell into the supressor but require a gasket to seal the ends between the pistol, rifle and the supressor thereby creating a seal and increasing muzzle velosity

Another reason for placing a silencer on many rifle variants is the cost effect of concealing already elongated inner barrels. My SPR MOD 0 build has a Guarder 6.02 650 mm inner barrel and to find (have custom built) an outer barrel to cover the Guarder would cost around $300-$400. But just using the stock A&K SPR barrel and hand guard with an 8" suppressor is just enough to cover the inner barrel at only a fraction of the cost.

I just got into Airsofting with my kids and his friends. For me it's a way to re-live my experience's being in the Air Force as a Security Policemen without all the inspections and answering to an inspector when they use to come to my post. I recently pickup a APEX airsoft full metal MK13 MOD 5 rifle. Absolutely stunning! I picked up a silencer for it and I will say the rifle looks impressive and very intimidating. True that is adds length and little weight to an already weighty rifle. But for me it's about having a ethically pleasing rifle to have. Good call.

You should probably mention that it has some effect on gas powered guns. It even makes AEG guns a bit more silente since there is still air/gas under pressure escaping the barrel. For example take a look on TM Mk23 Socom, it is extremely silent gun and that is also thanks to supressor it uses.

I'm a casual airs off player and just shoot cans and play with a few friends. I have a spring walther P99 with a silencer. I've been using it about 2-3 times a month at minimum in a battle and more frequently just shooting. It's a plastic suppressor and plastic threaded barrel. I'm pretty careful with it and have once done a full disassembly and cleaning. It's worked perfectly for 2 years and has never broken any parts but the suppressor does make it many times more accurate while it's on and it looks cooler.

I just put my orange tip in hot water (not hot enough to melt the actual plastic) for about 10 minutes and the glue melted away and i was able to reuse the tip until after about a year the threads got to stripped to use.

actually, suppressors and flash hiders often hide extended barrels and tracer units, (tracer unite makes the bbs light up when your playing in dark environments) for example, i have a flash hider on the from of my ak, without it, there would be about 3 iches of brass tubing sticking out of the front, that, and it also supports the barrel so it does not get bent.

Dear Sir, I own an airsoft AR and I can tell you that it actually DOES reduce the noise level, a great deal, depending on if it is a decorative silencer or an active one so to speak. On demand I could even send you measured data, in dB, recorded near the muzzle. It is a suppressor which works very much like a real one, with chambers and baffles inside. 250 mm, 14mm CCW threads. Comes very handy when you don't want to bother your neighbor while living in an apartment turned into a "firing range". And airsoft guns, btw, aren't that silent (not to mention those on gas). Not the ones I own. Another example - there is a Makarov model (from WE) that comes with a dummy suppressor, but which has an extendable muzzle. The muzzle velocity gets greatly increased when using the suppressor, by 30%, given that the barrel is longer. And yes, the accuracy is better too.

Spot on presentation, thank you! Agree on most of the facts, however I am a big fan of air soft Walter PPKs and I owned 2, shooting on gel target in my semitruck sleeper. Now retired i bought the third one.. The gun is spring air soft with a silencer. Whole purpose only for display, however shooting 5 yard to gel target, silencer do the job: it is a little more quiet and very, very accurate! (tip is for guns under 180 use heavy grain 20-26 amo, it will give more accuracy and be less loud, yeah, hard to explain but that's what it works, at least for me..)

I would like to know what silencer, would you recommend for an Umarex Steel storm airsoft gun.....I consider this particular airsoft gun, to be extremely loud!!

I agree with you about airsoft suppressors, but one FUNCTIONAL use for them is that they can hide extended inner barrels.

Some of the Elite Force pistols have a threaded orange tip, like the M1911A1 and Tac. Also, I've seen mock suppressors on a few sites that have positive threads on one end and negative on the other, which is more affordable than an opposite-threaded suppressor and adaptor.

The silencer could also be used to hide a longer barrel off of a sub machine gun

It reduces the sound going towards the enemy by putting foam insulation in front of the gun like a muffler its like the dampened piston systems they help because in cqb or long range you can still hear it firing and if they can hear you they can find you

As both an airsoft gun owner/player and a real steel owner/shooter. I see both sides of the idea. Yes, airsoft guns are really quiet compared to real guns. However you can modify some airsoft mock suppressors by putting foam inside of them and they actually do reduce the sound of the piston slap coming out of the end of the barrel, thus making it more suppressed.

So lets dissect this here, 1. There are foam filled airsoft silencers which/suppressor can muffle the noise an awful lot, especially on loud HPA'd rifles 2. A lot of mock suppressors (even some foam filled) can and will take tracer units which helps in night games and CQB to tell where your BBs which allows you to adjust your gun as such which overall increases accuracy 3. Most of airsoft is for looks anyway. Most people just buy red dots for looks, most people just buy entire guns over other (sometimes internally superior) guns just because of their looks. A suppressor is just another example of most of airsoft just being to look cool 4. Some suppressors with inner barrels can increase accuracy as well as range. The longer the barrel, the faster and more range that BB is gonna go. And your guiding it with more inner barrel further increasing the accuracy. And yes, I understand this video is outdated, but I just wanted to point this out to beginners so they don't watch this video and think all airsoft silencers/suppressors are usless

First, the goal of an airsoft suppressor isn't to reduce the noise of the firing. The main goal of an airsoft suppressor is to act as a barrel shroud, this means that it will basically cover your extended inner barrel so that it doesn't get damaged, or look stupid. As he says in the end of the video. The suppressors might reduce noise on gas powered pistols, but not so much on AEG's.
