It's a shame that everyone's just rushing/skipping through Mary's dialogue during the corridor run before the final boss. If you actually wait and listen all the way through, she expresses her regret in how she treated James. While I haven't played the remake yet, that's how it was in the original and I've no doubt they've done the same for the remake. You can even hear her voice get cut off too early.

@@flightmart999 Yup, that's one of two endings you can get for listening to the whole dialogue. Technically, it also gives points for the In Water ending if you meet the requirements, whereas skipping the dialogue gives you points for the Maria ending.

The line is still intact, actually. It's just that the scene is different. You can trigger it upon visiting the bowling alley I guess and inspecting the opened box of pizza there, but Eddie seems to be not present in the place. Just James commenting on it asking why someone would eat pizza in a time like this. Just seen this scene in a review of this game. IGN maybe? I forgot. You may check it if you could.

When the camera isn’t specifically placed it just kinda feels like the camera is just kinda doing whatever sometimes, and the Eddie fight sucks. But there’s pretty good reasons for those flaws, the camera thing being because most games back then had cameras that were just kinda feeling out how to even use a camera position, and when silent hill games pick a specific shot for a camera it looks really good so it kinda gets a “this is hit or miss and it makes sense to not make the entire game fixed camera like resident evil” pass. And the Eddie fight mainly gets a pass because A. It’s the only fight in the game that sucks, and B. Of course the team that specialized in combat with monsters didn’t have very much experience making a human fight, it’s undoubtedly got room for improvement but with the few flaws sh2 2001 has it’s pretty damn impressive. With sh2r people have admittedly been toxically negative, but it goes both ways, lots of new “fans” have cried the praises of Bloober team even before the game released. Mainly because they haven’t played the game and just want a way to play it. The issue comes in when people make reasonable criticisms and the people who like the remake chalk up all its detractors to being sexist or bad faith in their arguments so they don’t have to question their own world view.

I never understood the scene where James hides in the closet when he first sees Pyramid Head. I'm wondering if he saw his dad do something horrible to his mother when he was a child and hid in the closet from him then. And that sort of formed the root of his subconscious mysogyny. He'll be a nice guy unlike his dad but still holds the same views of women in some level as objects. It's also important to point out that Angela and Eddie also have their issues rooted in childhood so it would make sense for James' to go as far back as well.

I think Angela’s graveyard scene was a great addition, ironically her best performance was in a brand new interaction. But you’re so right, I can’t believe how badly Maria’s actress botched it overall. (Edit: it could be about the direction she was given, so I probably shouldn’t place the blame on the actress for that yet) That was arguably the most important character to get right, considering the letter reading at the end is the emotional core of the game. The original can still bring me to tears if I’m in the right headspace, and this version just falls completely flat. It’s a shame because they were clearly trying to capture a different tone and it does occasionally work, i think all the Eddie scenes are better than the original honestly. They just botched the most important moments, the burning staircase, the prison cell, the letter etc.

I think Bloober Team did a good job, is need to remember that this game is a remake and not the original, logically there would be some changes but for me the essence was maintained. I'm happy Silent Hill is back

Looks really, really good overall but they completely butchered the dialogue with Maria before the final fight. The original one is SO much better, both for what Maria and James say alongside the "Confronting the beast" OST.

I loved this game but where are Angela's tears, she cried and had a breakdown and not a single tear. I can't believe the voice actin was better in the OG. But other than that it's a great game.

I don't know... She ain't bad. But to me OG Maria is much better looking. Not to mention she has a certain aura about her. You just can't read her sometimes. She's creepy, but you just can't stay away from her. I kept coming back to her scene where she's behind bars cause it was so good. I won't be coming back to that scene in the remake. But like I said...this one ain't bad. At all. Just different. Anyway...

Мне всë равно что кто говорит, тут вот в оригинале Джеймс так сделал, тут Мария с такой интонацией сказала, мне нравится какую работу проделали Bloober Team, и если им поручат переделать 1 или 3 часть, то я только буду рад этому.

To be fair, you do have Slavic bias Just kidding. Most of the Maria scenes are inferior here, and they went for a different tone for the game overall. It is good, just very different from the original. Bloober said they don’t have interest in remaking 1 or 3 because they prefer psychological horror to occultism, so Konami will probably choose a different team for the rusted red Silent Hill games
