My father played the original back when he was a teen. Now he played with me the remake, and laughed over how Maria dancing was an urban legend back then. He actually complimented how she looked now, and the fact that she was more emotional could add to her gaslighting tendencies. He loved her design ( and her old one too ) and says it looks like Mary’s but the opposite side of the spectrum. Mary has a cardigan and pleated dress, while Maria has a leather jacket and tight dress.

Because the original game has nothing to do with sexual desires and lust, those are things that people made up and kept pushing further. Maria is nothing more than what james wanted mary to be again, healthy and beautiful, she is a perfect version of mary, so the design do not destroy the original symbolism. IMPORTANT EDIT: I dind't make myself clear in this comment, the game game has a sexual subtext, it deals with your psych, specially with freudian theories, the game has sexual connotations yes but is far from being the most important part of the main plot, and james as a character, people keep pushing further that james is just a sexual frustrated guy that killed his wife because of lack of sex (a complete misunderstanding) every emotion and feeling is connected, even more in james case that felt a lot of emotions during the last 3 years, one thought pulls other, but the sexual side of james is FAR from being the main point of the character and the story.

@@jarret45briefly, i always felt like she played into James character more, the way she gets inside of his head and adds to his suffering and desire while still yet being tortured herself. Both needing yet not meant to be able to save each other. The original used the same model for Mary and Maria. For example one major difference which I didn't care for was when he talks to her in the cell. She touches his face and the shot is change from behind James looking at her with her hand on his face to just a close of of James face with her hand there. I also think that some of the odd delivery lines, uncanny nature, and abstract rooms add to the personal hell like state that all of the characters seem to be in without realizing it. The original was really yet surreal making the characters and player feel lost and confused, trying to make sense of everything. The excellent acting acting takes all of that away, which you could argue takes a way a huge psychological aspect. Just my take, which I also think is great about the original. More room for interpretation and discussion. Anyway I'm still happy with the remake and the great reviews, the more eyes on Silent Hill the better.

Maria looked pretty awful in the original, and I’m not sure why so many of these balding millennials are hyping it up so much, though it probably doesn't matter. The revitalized version of Maria is far more believable, and the voice acting in this remake is leagues better than the low-budget feel of the original Silent Hill 2. Credit to the original voice actors; they did their best with what limited direction and skill they had. Now that Silent Hill is following in Resident Evil's footsteps with remakes, I’m excited to see what’s in store for the franchise. After nearly 20 years of being dead in the water, it desperately needed reworking and modernizing to stand a chance in today's fast-evolving gaming industry.

The initial route from the entrance to the city center was boring, while the first path already indicated that you were entering purgatory. Lower opacity and sharpness of the environment and background objects compared to the avatar (you notice that some trees in the background are less sharp and this takes away the effect of contrast. and depth -- which is what makes us feel lost and abandoned and afraid). Lack of tricks and scenes with very subtle and insightful psychological effects (such as very specific and mystical locations and an inspiration here or there, for example, moans or noises in the closed bathroom, that scene with James listening to a radio quiz program, etc. ) They could have made James see some canonical character wandering around from afar. Angela with a "delicate" and "rational" appearance, while the original had a small physiognomy and altitude and tone of voice that generated some distrust about her mental consistency. Very "teen friendly" game, a bit of a "yellow flag", removing the brutality, bloodletting, latent sexuality, suspense and desperation of the original 4. In many moments there is more action than suspense, it is even tiring, to the point that it seems predominantly Resident Evil 4. James with a gun didn't win me over. I still think an ordinary, sedentary citizen with schizophrenia and in a symptomatic state uses weapons and avoids them. He looks like a different person... almost athletic. Did they polish? but I still feel that modeling clay effect in the graphics, which for me takes away part of the naturalness and realism. For me, the Remake still rings in my ears that in many moments it is something generic and more of the same.

This whole new scene is just a disaster. The team only managed to do something within the original scenes, but basically they ruined everything there. But the new scenes are just terrible. I know that the game's creators looked to the Silen Hill series for inspiration, but they didn't seem to understand many of the nuances.
