This is an evaluation of Silent Hill 2 Remake's combat reveal trailer. There were some things done right,but it's clear that the game still has a long way to go. In this video,I give you a report of all the flaws I found both technical and subjective,which are then followed by a suggestion.

I cannot agree with your opinion on Magdalenne track. The track is very monotonne, yes, but for me that's exactly how depression sounds like and I think it is very fitting to the game. I agree with the other theme though. About the fog I would completly get rid of those cloudy things near the floor and instead densed the fog itself. Wgen I think about Silent Hill one of the firsst things that comes to my mind is that I can't see shit and I wholeheartdly love it. I think the fog should allow for 5-7.5m of visibility. About the colour profiles, I personally preffer low contrast shots in the trailer. High contrast shots were to bright for me on the highlights and so killed the whole mood of the game. They looked like something taken from modern Resident Evil entries which, in my honest opinion, isn't a direction which SH series should follow because despite both being horror games, RE is much more action oriented.

apparently some people are saying that the game footage is from last year when the game was about 40% complete. it would explain some missing elements. and the ruff gameplay.

Makes sense for the most part, except the music track. It is a highly emotional song that still hits hard. Probably the best thing about the trailer.

I think you did a decent job showcasing your points, as well as provide meaningful solutions. I don't think the safe portion is too big a problem, but I will say otherwise valid criticisms without a doubt. I love SH 2 and I really hope Bloober puts their thinking caps back on and remedies the glaring problems that everyone has pointed out.

Listening to 'Promise,' it seems they've scooped out the low mids and the higher end of the low frequencies, which unfortunately makes it lack body. On a positive note, I'm pleased they decided to remove the flange/chorus effect. That effect can feel quite dated, and its absence here is a welcome change. My biggest complaint by far is the combat, the James character model looking nothing like the original, and the lying figure redesign isn’t that great.

This. I haven't seen many criticism touching upon the topic regarding the "modernized version" of "The Promise". Being in development does not excuse the fact that Bloober Team's bizarre creative vision has turned one of the greatest theme that sounds melancholic...... into some sort of crappy superhero-battle theme.

Maybe the gameplay in the trailer is for a survival mode as extra content. I am pretty sure the enemy layout and overall flow of combat will be the same in game.

You are super right about promise song. Guitar is badly mixed and have shit guitar tone. Also dont like MIDI Orchestra. Bad arragement. Original was more subtle and better sounding. Also i like the safe stuff you came up with.

All I found is the trailer specifically states “in development” That kinda explains everything....I mean props to them for now putting out a real “Gameplay” trailer. Lots of companies make cutscenes and pass it off as gameplay

The safe comment actually made me laugh not at you but a Bloober. I mean have they ever turned a dial on a safe or radial lock? They might have gone that route for esthetic reasons. But the thing I hate about defenders of Bloober is that they empathize with the studio, "Making games is hard & we should be grateful they are doing this!" Lol, I'm apathetic to companies when they are being paid to remake a legendary game, especially when they act like they know better than the original game & don't want feedback. This is their job & if they can't do their job, properly, screw them.

Artisitic freedom is the only reason I can think of why they placed scratches there,but anyone who's familiar with painting textures will know something's off. IMO issues should be aired out without regard for brand loyalty,if it helps the final product.

Perhaps the weathering on the safe was an artistic decision? This is Silent Hill after all- uncanny, not logical. In case you never noticed the doors in the floor. And you think there is too much fog? Have you even played the originals?

First minute in and you nitpick the weathering on the safe which looked perfectly fine the way it is. It is silent hill, you never know what atrocities lurk there that could weather any items unnaturally and excessively.

I understand the criticism, but you have to think about it. this is Silent Hill 2 remake, remade by the people who created Silent Hill. This game is going to be wonderful, whether there's problems or not. Not every game is perfect, Silent Hill 2 (original) was not even close to perfect, but the story, exploration, characters, music and Stiff Combat is what made the game for what it is. Graphically, in my opinion, is looking really well, but I'm pretty sure on release, they will improve.

You're forgetting the voice acting which is considered authentic and sincere... according to hardcore SH2 fans. The voice in the remake will get compared and lambasted since that's what happened in the previous remasters for SH2 & SH3 which used different voice actors from original PS2.
