I loved this game because it brought back the ambiguity of what's happening that can be discussed and debated. in the orphanage Murphy faces his bogey man but is stuck in silent hill because he is her bogey man and she still needs to be tested. I felt like a developer finally got back to what I loved about SH 2

@Ishyfoo The ending Features a funny cutscene of murphey digging his way out of prison into a room filled with all those characters you know and love from previous silent hill games that yell "Surprise!" and a cake that pyramid head comes in and cuts it in half for everyone. So ending F is when Anne is in prison, Ending E is the joke ending R3D

Which is then based off of a mining town in Pennsylvania I believe. Coal mine underneath the city caught fire and it's been burning ever since. Think it's going on 40 or 60 years burning now.

@Sloth7d The third ending has a lot of symbolism. Anne has a dream. In this dream she kills Murphy, who is in the form of the Boogeyman. She wakes up to Murphy telling her "today's the day" of her transfer. Murphy says the EXACT same things as Sewell, so we can assume Murphy took the place of Sewell and murdered her father and now Anne wants revenge. Which explains her dream of killing Murphy and why he is in the form of a Boogeyman. Anne = Murphy, wants revenge Murphy = Sewell,evil and corrupt

It's alright. I rented it twice. Once for these endings, second time I rented it was to get all 6 endings that are in my other video. I want to get the hd collection when it's inevitably $15 or 20. It's only two games. This one is pretty fun but not really that scary. If you are strapped on cash rent this game or wait for it to be $20-30

@snow2312 That ending is an alternate reality so to speak, in which Anne is convicted for doing something just like Murphy was. and Murphy takes the place of Sewell to show the hate Anne had for Murphy, just like Murphy had hate for Sewell. or at least thats my opinion. it all goes about how you view it.

He is convicted of killing his son (when Napier is the one who really did it, we think) because he was jealous his divorced wife wanted complete custody. It's sort of a karma thing. The way you get this ending is if you kill Anne and killed a lot of monsters. So it all bites him in the ass.

This game wasn't bad but...there's so much about it that is a real departure from the old SH. I know that isn't necessarily a bad thing but this game felt more apart of "The Suffering" franchise than Silent Hill. Nothing was bizarre, the storyline dragged only to wind up with an ending that didn't really have much to do with the whole "lost child" theme that ran through 80% of the game.

hey R3D hope you read this, I just got the joke ending to this game, you need to die against Anne with good Karma meaning try to save Anne in the beginning of the game and console JP at the devils pit also spare downed enemies without killing them and run from most enemies, You also need to complete the digging up the past side quest before leaving silent hill to the prison otherworld on the boat. To get the quest you need to be on plathrough 2 or higher, The ending is worth it

I am pretty sure Silent Hill is a town that is pretty much a ghost town, though only appears and changes it's appearance [usually] to fit to the persons life, and lifestyle. Silent Hill really isn't a town, it's a hell that forces people to redeem themselves, and or, help others. [Henry Townshed for instance was forced into it, when he moved into the apartment. Mostly because he was one of the next victims on Walters list, who was sent into Silent hill to save his 'mother'.] /Trying to answer/

CONTINUING Also I believe that Murphy 'being' Sewell, is a representation of both of their guilt. Murphy might have also thought of himself as Sewell, and Anne still blaming him and wanting revenge in the place of Murphy. Much like how Murphy knew that Sewell killed Frank, and eventually figured out Sewell was the one to blame. I suppose that's just my theory?

I liked it, a lot. Though to me the only downside of it was the Otherworld [It was nothing like the other games] and the lack of variations in monsters. The horror factor is a bit weakened but... other than that, it was still scary at some points. I found the game to be good, though.

there are some parts that r scary. like the buildup for the first doll (ghosts with the maniquin) encounter freakin made me piss my pants. its definatly better than homecoming. though not big enemy variety and they are sort of lack luster in apearance

it actually was pretty good.. except the otherworld was alot different in this one mostly running from the red thing and i never really thought death traps fit silent hills other world usually the monsters kill you..speaking of which the suprise ending had nurses and pyramid head but you never see them in gameplay..that sucked but i liked all the easter eggs they threw in james and heather the silent hill 4 room 302 i think it was..the mailman howard is from some other silent hill stuff as well

I'm also conflicted about whether or not to get this game as I keep hearing everybody dissing it, including a feature on G4, where they praised the story, but said there were issues with the controls, as well as the game supposedly freezing up. Being a person who likes to find things out for myself( I never trust reviews), does Downpour have those control and freezing up issues? I have a PS3, and am curious. Honest answers only. Thanks.

Then yes, this game is good. Very very good infact. I personally would give it a 9 for the memorable story and characters, beautiful music and graphics and fun gameplay and sidequests. Really, the only reason I rate it down is because of the occasional frame rate drops. Check this game out.

This might be a far fetch, but based on the "loop ending", I think Murphy has some sort of personality disorder, which is why he doesn't finish Napier himself, the flashbacks are handed poorly, and why he panics after he realizes he killed the Cunninghams. He himself isn't sure if it was really Napier who did it, or if it's possible HE did it and repressed it.

Well they are short. It takes me about 45 minutes to do sh2 and I remember first time it was like 5 or 6 gameplay hours. This one gave me 10 and I didn't even do all the side stuff because I was busy exploring and shit. Alan Wake wasn't short either, we started somewhere in the afternoon and finished at dawn, that's way longer than all the old games I had.

Except that each version of Silent Hill is supposed to be representative of the protagonist in their respective game, i.e. Murphy's version is different, it all isn't real in the technical sense of the term, Silent Hill is an evil place that transforms itself based on the guilts of the person it brings, and the "monsters" are taken from this guilts, so they are figments of each characters imagination technically.

You should probably know that, unlike what this person has told, what's going on in Silent Hill has nothing to do with Satan or hell or whatever. It's a spiritual power in the town that causes it to project your subconscious onto reality. The gods and angels of the cult in the first and third games were, in a way, manifested from the realm of their imagination and made reality within the town. It's rather complicated, but it's very interesting. Check out The Real Silent Hill Experience series.

I think you missed one. The good ending, you kill few monsters and spare the cop. It follows the crime and justice ending, but instead they wake up on the lake shore. The cop reports Murphy dead and he escapes into the woods.
