The EA vowel digraph usually makes a long E sound like beat, heat, lean, leap, heal, etc. In this case, the A isn't considered silent because it's put into a vowel team digraph. However, sometimes in the EA digraph, the E remains short and the A becomes silent like bread, head, meadow, bear, wear, heaven, leather. There's another rule to silent A. If the word contains the EA digraph but the E sound remains short, then the A can sometimes be silent.

Wow, I remember watching this video one week before I move to Dublin in December 2017. Here I am still in Ireland. I love this country and, my wife is Irish. This video, and part 2, helped me a lot. I've probably sent it to more than 20 people in 2018. It's such an epic video. Congratulations, Emma! Greetings from a Brazilian lad who lives in Ireland.

I love you !!! I'm a Spanish speaker. I speak Fluent English.and I'm living in the States. Is the first time in my life I found an English Teacher that actually explain for Spanish People. I meant most of English Teachers expect us to pronounce just like that. Because they can and they ignore the fact that Spanish has all the sounds. I mean, the English G sounds like the Spanish Y. but softer. the Spanish ch is another sound. It seems. you nailed it, darling. Great work.!! I now can say, Salmon ....and be understood! THANKS !!
