Lillian Gish is still remembered to this day in her hometown of Massillon, Ohio - a short road that connects Ohio Route 172 to Ohio Route 21 is named Lillian Gish Boulevard. There is also a small stone block structure (I don't know what it actually is) that has two paintings of her on it - one side features a scene from 'The Scarlet Letter', and the other has her portrait with her birth (1893) and death (1993) years next to it. She may be gone, but Massillon certainly hasn't forgotten her!

I'd like to recommend "SIlent Star" by Colleen Moore and "Vamp--the Rise and Fall of Theda Bara" by Eve Golden, two stars who could handle fame and live long, positive lives. Louise Brooks wrote the excellent "Lulu in Hollywood". Glad to see Louise Brooks next to Clara Bow whom she admired and praised as an actress in both the spoken and written word.

Most (over 75%) of all silent films made are lost forever and of those that exist, will also be lost if not properly stored and handled. That said, there are a few hundred silent films that have been released on DVD and Blu-Ray, so I guess these will be available to future generations for viewing, albeit a very selective group they will be.

It's a wonderful video and some of these deaths could be made into a movie like Robert Harron's death or John Bowers. Also, some lived such chaotic lives that it seemed they died very old but not really at all like Charles Ray..living life too full wears the soul out.

Thank you for a wonderful tribute. I think you included every major star and quite a few that I had not heard of before. There were some lesser known stars that didn't get included, but it would have been near impossible to include all of them. I'd be curious to know who the last four or five silent screen actors were to leave this world (not counting bit players or babies or little kids who appeared in films). I'm guessing that Anita Page was the last one. May God grant all of them eternal peace and rest. As a side note, my only criticism is that I kept having to hit the pause button in order to read the info presented for each star.

rockisheaven I had been watching more silent films and Golden age Hollywood films recently too. I have always been fascinated with them and the actors/actresses and the history behind it. Such a different time period. Stars like Charlie Chaplin, Lon Chaney, Gloria Stuart and Fay Wray only come once a lifetime and it does sadden me to be aware of that. How would a simple conversation be with them...to me, it also serves as a reminder to try and not take people and life for granted. Especially our loved ones. I'm 23 and I wish fellow millennials would be as open and engaging to appreciating such films. Damn, now I'M bummed out.

Not sure if anyone else made a comment about the Barrymore's, just in case though, John , Lionel, and their sister Ethel were born in my hometown of Philadelphia Pa. They lived for a time on Arch St. There is a hotel in Philadelphia called the Hyatt that had " The Ethel Barrymore" room. Also John was buried in Mount Vernon Cemetery initially, but some years later his remains were moved to a California cemetery. I'm sure everyone knows that he is actress Drew Barrymore's grandfather.

I'm so glad you posted is production. This mellenial generation does not revere, honor or pay homage to people wh came long before us in this country. We use to but not anymore-part of the me, me, me selfish generation of the new century. We must keep people like Norma hearer, Clara Bowe, charlie Chaplin nd so many, many more alive and visible because they made the entertainment industry what it is today. Without them, Hollywood as we kow it now would never have existed. We need to keep reminding the world that those who came before us held this business toegther long before a new star was born every day on youtube. One day we'll be gone and we'll want someone in this world toremeber us. Thank you.

Robbi D that's a bit unfair to judge all millennials thinking that way. I'm 24, a millenial, and I truly cherish and appreciate these stars and their works that shaped up our form of art cinema. I find it truly fascinating. It, indeed, breaks my heart to know how time moves on rapidly and before you know it, everyone (be it these wonderful stars or even us) become forgotten within time. Makes you feel like life is insignificant. Thinking of it now, it makes me greatly sad to know that I'll never know or get to meet the likes of Charlie Chaplin or Mary Pickford :(.

Is it possible to just go to Forest Lawn memorial in LA and wander around on the gardens looking for some of these graves?
@93Vet9 жыл бұрын
+Little Whore Records Yes, you can, it is a public cemetery, but some celebs are keeping their resting places private. It is usually in a "locked" type of mausoleum or corridor where the general public cannot visit. One prime example is Jean Harlow. Died in 1937 at age 26. I went to her gravesite one Sunday in 2008. It is in Forest Lawn, Glendale, Ca. in the "Grand Mausoleum" I believe where several past celebrities are. Jean's "corridor" is virtually a who's who of the 30s or at least some of the people she knew and worked with. It is just beautiful. Literally, everywhere you step or look is marble with fine statuesqes and stained glass where the sun going down can reflect in. I saw it myself. The corridor has a chain across it so the general public cannot access it. You can go in there, if you are silent and sneaky, but respectful. I did and I went directly to Jean's marble grave, at the end of the corridor to the left. I stood inside it for a few minutes in awe. It said "OUR BABY" in Gold letters. The Gold lettering is fading. Her mother and herself are in there, but no one else. As I was walking steadily down the corridor to my Jean, I saw Marie Dressler's grave from "Dinner At Eight" and Red Skelton's I think. Jean's movie director is near her grave as well, but he also has a chain across it to his own mausoleum in the same corridor with a stained glass window for himself. Quite beautiful.
