Silent Supercar-Killer Tesla Model 3 Performance Tested on Genting

This time, we managed tp get our hands on the Tesla Model 3 Performance, courtesy of Tesla Malaysia, and naturally we had to check it out on our favorite mountain.
To update those not in the know, the performance version of each Tesla model comes with inched up wheels, bigger brakes and beefed up suspension in addition to the dual motors amd of course, some added tuned modes for more exhuberant driving. For these upgrades, I would like to show my appreciation, because they give the car character, and allow it to be driven to its full potential.
I have taken up the Model Y Performance, and liked it, but the Model 3 Performance is even better due to its lower Center of Gravity.
I have also driven the previous Model 3 Performance, and this updated one is even better.

Hi YS Khong… how do you think this 3 perform vs. BMW m340i LCI ? I’m fine with acceleration and torque of both, but how about suspension, driving feeling, xDrive/AWD, cabin noise, etc

Will need a complete thesis. For sure the Trsla tops in power, and costs much less than the M340i. With the Tesla, you point and squirt. The 340i requires some driving. Which you choose depends on what you want.

10:45 I have to agree with uncle's statement. I'm not in the single bit scared when I had to run away driving past 200km/h from a black Toyota Fortuner whose extremely fragile ego I accidentally bumped while on the highway but I'd rather spend the night in an abandoned hospital than ride a roller coaster edit: please kindly do NOT drive 100 over the speed limit, it's very dangerous and against the law. The incident stated above is the only time I drove that fast and that was to avoid my injuries due to road rage and the guy in the Fortuner trying to ram me off the highway

Torque, gearing, weight, grip level, driver - all are variables.

Ex30 also weights 800lbs-1000lbs more, even model y weights less than ex30. So model 3 performance will be much faster, both in straight and in corners.

Were you doing one pedal driving? Was the physical brake needed when going into a corner?

One pedal driving is best for slow driving. I need to determine my own rate of slowing down and at many points I need to reduce speed pretty rapidly. Ability to slow down rapidly is just as important as acceleration.

The model3P comes with stiffer suspension, bigger wheels, and what looks like Brembos, and P Zeros , so is better equipped for speed. And 3.0 seconds 0 - 100 is faster than the Seal - of course you pay more for the Tesla.

Amazing performance but I can't imagine using 27% of a gasoline car's fuel capacity in a little run up the hill. I'd argue that short range and excessive recharging times remain the two great drawbacks of battery-powered vehicles.

500+ kilometer range is possibly better than an equivalent power ICE range. For me, if a car can go between 400 to 500km I am more than okay: with a growing charging network, it should be okay. If supplemented by a home 11kw charger, I would be quite comfortable.

I once thought the same as you, but after taking one for a drive, I was sold. You take the good and the bad with EVs, but I can confirm more good than bad! No other cars drive the same. Don’t let charging hold you back.

Uncle YS, judging by your BYD Seal Genting Hillclimb video about 6 months ago, I am given the impression that you enjoyed the Seal much better than the Tesla Model 3P, in terms of handling in sharp turns and more fun to drive (according to your reactions). Am I correct? :)

Both are different and have their individual charms. The Tesla has a bit more power and so requires a bit more seriousness. The tyres made a difference - the Seal was fitted with ECO tyres which made it slip a bit - so it was a bit more exciting.

Actually it won’t smoke model 3 performance, it’s witches 800lbs more, they both run low 11s in 1/4 and both do 0-60 3.0s, however USA version of model 3 is faster than ioniq 5n, that will do 0-60 2.9s and 10.9 in 1/4.

The model S plaid would be slower on this road than the M3P as it is a lot bigger/heavier, but it would smoke the M3P on a straight line of course.
