In case of a sudden snowstorm, being well-prepared is crucial. In this video, I'll show you how to build a simple yet effective winter survival shelter to seek refuge from the elements. We'll also kindle a fire to cook our food.
Join me and my loyal dog as we spend the night safely in our makeshift shelter.

yes! when i was a kid in the 70s and 80s, my mum who is an amazing cook always took herbs and spices with us when we were camping, and she was an avid photographer so she used leftover film canisters to store them. love to see this advanced level of preparation for flavour, however it manifests! 😆❤

Great video, thank you brother. A small tip if you don’t mind - when starting a fire, hold the steel still and pull the flint backwards over it. The sparks still fly forward but you don’t upset your tinder with all that forward motion. Cheers!

Carry two BiC butane lighters instead. No weight. No delay. No need to shave duff and then sparks from a firestick with cold numb fingers. You are already using a modern steel hatchet, modern saw, modern clothes, boots, flashlight…. Forget nostalgia and romanticism. Use a modern fire lighter.

This video captures the essence of survival in challenging conditions. The bushcraft shelter built in heavy snow is a testament to resilience and resourcefulness in the face of nature's challenges. The skills demonstrated here, from selecting a suitable site to constructing a sturdy shelter, are invaluable for anyone venturing into the wilderness during winter. It's inspiring to see how creativity and determination can turn adversity into an opportunity to thrive. This video is not just about survival skills; it's a lesson in preparation, adaptability, and respect for nature's power.

My fav part is always the sound of boots in the snow, and the bird’s squawking. Where you cut the tees down looked to be a much drier, flat spot. Was it due to heavy tree coverage why no snow? I May have choose that spot to camp.

Thank you 🙂i know what you mean. Unfortunately, in almost every place I went, the terrain was at least so steep that it was out of the question for a place to sleep.

Just curious; wouldn’t you want to keep the fire 🔥 going when you went to sleep?😴

no chance! If I made the fire bigger, the snow would come down from the tree. It was only used to prepare a meal. Outside the tree it would be a struggle to keep the fire alive and I would be soaking wet. it was just too humid. The best option is to go into your sleeping bag and ride it out. When it stops snowing, you build a fire again and dry everything.

Bushcrafting seems to destroy a lot of nature, just in the name of a hobby or practice! It seems every time we humans get involved in managing nature, we really screw it up and damage it.

If you don’t thin the trees out then the forest floor can’t survive and produce food and other nutrients for the other trees and animals that live there. Cutting trees that are close together is beneficial.
