The reason I love Drew Sarich as Judas is because he captures the hysteria of the character so well.

Okay, but the fury in that initial "MY GOD" was amazing. I don't think I've ever seen a Judas portray it in that way of just pure rage at the realization that he was manipulated into participating in the murder of his friend. Most others tend to sing that line as half broken or grieving, as if they're turning to Caiphus for some type of sympathy. Drew plays such an intense Judas that I really would have loved to see him in a production that puts a more modern spin on the setting (think 2014 Swedish Arena Tour).

This is the only performance I've seen that REALLY drives home why he commits suicide. At first the anger at Caiphus, the realization that he was manipulated by him, the guilt. And then the realization that Jesus knew all along, that he let this happen, let him be damned. The anger and guilt refueled. Betrayed from both sides and nobody else to turn to in his despair. An absolutely BRILLIANT performance.

I've never thought of it this way, that the "God" he was referring to was Jesus. This hits on a deeper level.

Just wanted to reply cause it’s a weird crossover with JCS and a Marvel pfp, but it’s cool to see. Also I agree, the sudden gunshot makes this more disturbing, though I’m not sure which one I liked better. Also shoutout to that crazy note at 3:35
@JustAnotherBuckyLover

@@Phasmania Haha, thanks. I think I prefer the hanging because it has such a more... torturous aspect to it. And yeah I guess so... though I feel like the majority of my Marvel-enjoying (and especially Bucky-loving) friends are also musical theatre fans, too. I see a certain amount of similarity between Bucky/Winter's characterisation and that of Judas too, in some ways (as different as they are on the surface). They both end up being the ones dragged in to do everyone else's dirty work, being used as a puppet by the PTB (whether that's Hydra and SHIELD, or God and the High Priests), both ending up as a sidekick to a "saintly" person that everyone thinks is either amazing, or a huge danger to society, when in reality they're just a man with ideas above their station, as it were... and both end up feeling their guilt so profoundly for letting this person they love with every fibre of their being down that they think they don't deserve to live... I may or may not have a thing for tortured souls, especially if they have morally grey areas... though personally, I think Bucky was completely free of any responsibility for what he was made to do as Winter, because he was literally tortured and brainwashed and had his whole existence "wiped" (with what is basically hyper souped up ECT without the anaesthesia and paralysis to prevent the agonising pain and seizures) every few days when he "malfunctioned" (aka his own moral code began to break through the horrific procedures, no matter what they did).
@Phasmania

That's the popular take on his death, but don't forget that JCS is suposed to be set in "modern" times. And also, the producers (or the directors, I'm not sure how theatre works exactly) have artistic license.

Question/Poll: Drew is amazing as Jesus and Judas, but is there one performance you prefer over the other? I think, ultimately, I prefer him as Judas. Drew has this innate darkness. Vocally he's untouchable as Jesus, but his Judas just hits me the right way.
@madamemaximoff9838
@madamemaximoff9838 2 жыл бұрын
I love him both as Jesus and Judas, he puts so much into both of these roles and he gives it his all and he pours his heart and soul into the characters that he plays. But I have to say that I like him as Judas more. He portrays him so differently then how most people portray Judas, in this song when he sings “My god I saw him” he has this fire, this rage, this fury while most Judas’s sing it as sad or as grieving but Drew he sings it with anger, he was manipulated to betraying his best friend. He sings that section with such a rage and when he sings “I don’t know how to love him” there’s this kind of confusion and deep sadness when he sings “He’s a man, he’s just a man, he is not a king, he’s just the same as anyone I know, he scares me so” Not to mention his voice is just 😍, it’s just amazing. Also I love how he sings “my mind is in darkness now, my god, I’m sick, I’ve been used” I feel like that section of the song is really hard for people that play Judas to sing (and I mean yeah it is) but Drew sings that with such a kind of eerie kind of sound and then when he sings “ why you chose me for your crime, for your crime, for your crime” he has this gravel in his voice that just makes me melt. Also when he sings “for I have been saddled with the murder of you” he sings so quietly and kind of fast almost like he realizes what he has done and what’s going to happen. I could honestly do a full essay on why Drew is so good as Judas but I won’t 😂 Well long story short Drew is such a phenomenal actor and I love him as Judas

He believed Jesus was only a man. He didn't know he'd be forgiven. He felt he betrayed his best friend for 30 pieces of silver and then to rub it into his face , turned him into the pharasees. And Jesus knew all along....and still loved him. But it killed him inside. Thats when he went to the pharacys to tell them where they'd find Jesus,, he already felt theconviction on his heart.
