1975...I was stationed in Turkey when I first heard this album...to be able to hear "wind on horseback", Tee Vee", "Solid" and of course, "Silk" brings back so, so many memories...I thank you from the bottom of my heart! This was indeed an album to treasure, because music like THIS isn't played anymore. Thank you.

I feel ashamed not to have sought out this particular Mandrill track until now. It is epic in every sense of the word. It is showing what all the amazing players in the band can do, it is like a vindication and expression of greatness. Grossly underated and underexposed as a band, whether because of a lack of record company back up, wrong sound at the wrong time etc. Madrill were truly blessed with talent, soul, musical awareness, humour, humility and God given good looks! The ultimate tight knit band, and this from a P-Funker extraordinaire of 61 years! Play on Mandrill, the world will catch up, Kamasi did!!! Respect to everyone else out there conscious of Mandrill and their blessed souls. If you haven't already watched the "Wind on horseback" Soul Train video, check it out. The groove was so good that night, the entire audience went into an impromptu Bus Stop, wonderful. Thanks for the post, Jazzman Amos.

The last time I heard this great song by Mandrill was about 22 Years ago on an overnight jazz program in Chicago. It is truly a great song, reminds me being out on a beautiful afternoon with that special lady and you are just feeling everything in the world is alright with you! Of course, you never this song even on "Dusties" stations today either; and if they play something by Mandrill, it won't be this particular song. It's beyond me why it isn't on CD, because I know I'd buy it outright!

I have a copy of this album to that I bought in 1975 when the album came out nowhere on that doesn't say Carlos Santana plays guitar on there the guitar player for Mandrill at that time was Tommy Trujillo also Carlos Wilson plays guitar too well we know he plays everything. So if you still have the original album jacket take a picture of the Personnel on there and show me where it says Carlos Santana is playing on the song known as silk also there was an inner sleeve along with the jacket they had a lot of credits on there too and the words to the songs so if it's listed on the inner sleeve I'd like to see that too. Battle fact I seen Tommy had posted something in the remarks one time I'm going to see what I can find that post and ask him.

"SILK" reminds me of Marvin Gaye`s "What Going On".

Joseph Joyce It's from Marvin's album that was also covered by Stanley Turrentine as a prelude to the movie that he did the sound track too.

TELL ME? WHY DID THE FUNK BANDS OF THE 70'S JAZZ SMOOTHER THAN MOST STUFF PLAYED ON THE SMOOTH JAZZ RADIO STATIONS TODAY
@marshalllsmith20956 жыл бұрын
PhillyGregA The reason is because today's musicians either steal music from other people of this planet or they try to get the sound from electronic devices or other machines that can keep time.

You sound like your parents back then. Is it so difficult to search for some good new music? There is so much talent and great music out there today, you just have to look for it.

I own a copy of this album. And to my surprise the guitar soloing is none other than Carlos Santana. This an excellent cut from a good album.

@@oRuTRa45 Thanks for the update. But it would have been great if Carlos Santana would have pulled of that change of style.

I have to admit that the CD is absolutely not complete without this wonderful instrumental included. The inclusion of strings, etc make the song really soar. Love how the drummer gives 'punch' where needed --- not too loudly --- Just right... A glaring omission on the part of the issuers of the CD not to include this song.
