Hey all!
Unlike other videos on my channel, today's video deviates from the norm! I'm sharing a small snippet of what if was like caring for sikworms! I have an awaiting exclusively hatching video (time lapse) edited as well; like this video to let me know you'd like it uploaded! Raising silk worms was quite interesting, (you'll see why in my later video as well as learn about my personal experiences / lessons / thoughts about the little fellas). They only live about 3 days to a week after emerging from the cocoon if that helps at all. They literally hatch without mouths and starve to death

At what point do you stop feeding the worms Mulberry for it to spin into a cacoon and not die prior? Also do they fly around or just stay in the open box?

Keepp Dreamingg - I can't answer the first question, but silkworm moths are unable to fly because they're too fat.

They are boiled alive so there is a single, continuous thread approx a mile long. If the moth is allowed to hatch, it will chew it's way out and the threads will be much shorter.

@@indoororchidsandtropicals358 Interesting. So strange! So when "they" get the mile long thread, how do they make it into silk from there? Clearly, it's all the threads. How the Chinese came up with this I have no idea!

Either put into an oven or they skip that step and go straight to boiling. It's very sad and unfortunate, but their life cycle is only like 3 days to a week after they hatch, if thay eases the guilt.

if you mean hatching from the cocoons, they only live from about 3 days to a week. They emerge without mouthparts, so they just... starve to death
