@BeginnersMind-ArtMind Жыл бұрын
I hear you about the body image issues! There are some KZbinrs who never show themselves. They just have the camera pointed down at whatever they’re working on. My only warning is to guard your heart against the occasional mean commentor/troll. Some of them can be quite cruel. I struggled with that in the beginning but, Knock wood I rarely get them anymore.

I sit at my desk. I stare out into space. At length I get up and slowly pace back and forth thinking "the lightfastness... How exactly lighfast are these fascinating Little Japanese paints after all?!?" I then remember how many years I have left in comparison to how long it will take these colours to fade and howl with laughter despite myself...💅👣

Kuretake is the manufacturer/compny name (Japanese) watercolors. (I forget what tambi means). I love these paints. i have these Kuretake ones and another brand also. What you are seeing in the stickiness, the shine in places has to do with the binder, which I believe is basically a type of glue, and is what makes Japanese watercolors different from Western ones. They are very fun, like a big box of candy.
@yamabudo3803 Жыл бұрын
Grr some of my text was deleted accidentally. Ok 'Gansai' is the noun, the name for what these are, i.e. (Japanese) watercolors.
@BeginnersMind-ArtMind Жыл бұрын
They definitely do look pretty in the box. Yes, Kuretake is the brand. Gansi translates as “Traditional Japanese watercolor“ and Tambi translates “aesthetic”. What I have learned since I received these is that the binder is a combination of sugar and animal-based glue. These pants are traditionally meant to only be used in one layer on absorbent Japanese paper. If they are used in more than one layer they will become shiny which is not the traditional look. I hated the shiny look but now that I understand how to use them properly I’m going to give them another go. I definitely don’t want to layer them and get that ugly shine.

I love your fur baby studio assistant sleepy or awake, he’s so adorable, so happy to see him again. Your paintings are beautiful. The micro paintbrushes are so much fun I use them to create details in my paintings. As Pen & Ink artist, it was all about the details, but hard to replicate with the large paintbrushes I had. The micro paintbrushes are a game changer! They do wear out faster, comparing as to painting with “4 hairs” instead of “400 hairs” 😂. Thank goodness for their lower cost. I’m doing more work in my sketchbooks as it seems to help lift me from the gloom of the cold and dark the weather creates. I’m encouraged to use the sketchbooks by the wonderful paintings you have created in yours. I really light the light panel you have. I wanted one when I was beginning to draw house portraits and wanted the details just right. I even bought a light projector but it was too difficult to use. I still have, but it’s very dust 🤧. I love the portrait you used in demonstration on the light panel. She is beautiful, as your other portraits. I wish you good health, energy and joy. You are so generous sharing your time and talent, 🙏🏻 thank you, it means the world to me. I wish I lived closer so I could help you and Don with the remediation. You both are in my thoughts, prayers and heart. I grew up with a whole house fan and when it was on it drew outside air throughout the house and ventilate out the attic. I don’t know if it would help clear the air, but it seems it might. I’ve wanted one since the day I moved into my home and I’m going to see about having one installed. Say good by to air conditioning and stuffy house! You control the air by closing the windows and doors.

@@BeginnersMind-ArtMind “One day at a time”, is a piece of advice I got from a friend along time ago, which I’m sure you’ve heard of too. But it’s easier said than done. I’ve had the privilege of being a follower (I don’t like that word too much so we’ll say KZbin friend) so I’ve watched for along time, despite having tough days , you always come on here with such an amazing attitude, I believe that’s the key towards making it through the hard days. Don has one strong, amazing woman by his side, we don’t know the details of some struggles but I want you to know and always remember, you are admired, loved, respected and cherished by many here on KZbin. We will always be sending prayers and positive energies your way! Let Don know we are his KZbin friends also, you both have a community of friends here that support and love you both. ❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼

Without all of you there would be no Beginners Mind - Art Mind community. Hey ms Linda! Thank you for your lovely videos, that encourages us to do what art we can, when we can. I have ME/FIBRO & chronic inflammation, and the foggy brain that comes w/it too. I’m managing to be less horizontal of late and even sat outside under my umbrella screen to sketch/paint for an hour & a half yesterday. Being so ill, I’ve done so may paintings…in my head 😉. But the thing that’s helped me most with art [well w/everything really] is breaking all the steps down until they are manageable. I’m swatching paints/pencils 5-6 at a time, if that’s what it takes. Then I have paper, paints, etc supplies at the ready, books tagged for lessons/references and a small box to haul out in one trip. So that patio painting was many steps in the making, but I was ready when my body was and it was a lovely day. I really want to go out again today as it will get to 75F 🌞, but all fun has a price, so here I recover while watching your fun, encouraging video. I’ll take your example and work on some sketches so I can get right to painting next time! Hope your furry luvs are feeling better today…and Bloopity-Bloop-Blooper ☺. Thanks again & take care you two.

I have so much enjoyed these paints. I now have ALL of the paints, including the new art nouveau set. These were the second brand of paints I used when I started my journey in August 2021. As I had absolutely no history in watercolor painting I didn't find it hard to adapt to this type of paint. Of course then I did have a lot of a learning curve when I really got into Western watercolor painting. Enjoy these pants they are so much fun, wonderful for learning how to use brushes, techniques and all the wonderful things involved in watercolor painting. I hope you get an opportunity to check out the art nouveau as they are an absolute joy.

Very interesting, I got a small set of the kuretake gansai tambi myself and did not like the feel of the paints. Their tackyness doesn't work for me alas - but a good thing I tested before I bought the huge anniversary set 😅 My money has now been spent elsewhere but it's still nice to see other people using them - and gotta love the bloopers too!
@BeginnersMind-ArtMind Жыл бұрын
I have to say the more I use them the glue binder (animal hide I think), is really frustrating to work with. I thought it was just that I needed to get used to it but no matter what paper I use them on the binder is just weird and frustrating. I may end up giving them to my hubby and I think at this point I regret buying the big set.
@jcookie9448 Жыл бұрын
Blooperinos. I looove the painting with the red house/barn. Please do share if you decide to try it on watercolour paper 😊The few times where I've used watercolour straight from the tubes I've also gotten the same "tackiness" and shine. I think it's as you said about not having enough water or if the water hasn't been "mixed" enough with the paint. I'm excited that you mentioned "naive art". I didn't know it had a name in English (It's called "naivism" here). I only found out about it a few weeks ago and I really want to learn and grow in this practice. So far I'm in love and I feel a lot of comfort in not having to think about the technical stuff. I didn't really know how much energy I spent on thinking/planning before I stopped doing it as much.. Which is nice :) I always thought that getting tired was just a part of art making. I still get tired from it ofcourse, but it doesn't affect my mood as much and it doesn't feel like a big commitment. So I can paint in short bursts rather than "sessions". My improvised stay wet palette helps. 😁

Later in the video I show a winter scene with a tree that I painted in my Etchr watercolor sketchbook. These watercolors worked beautifully on the higher quality watercolor paper. I’ve never experienced that same type of tacky sensation or binder issue with the M Graham watercolors or the Holbein watercolors straight from the tube. I love what you said about Naïve/primitive art. I agree with everything you said wholeheartedly! It’s really liberating! I love reading about how it expanded your creative practice. Of course I filmed working with the Kuretake watercolors. I filmed the daisy painting, and swatched them. I encourage you to read my channel description. As a disabled artist I do the very best I can to create videos to inspire other disabled and chronically ill people to develop their own unique creative practice. This is not a “tutorial” channel and it’s not the right fit for everyone. Struggling with my chronic illness and disability make getting these videos filmed and edited each week a mammoth task but it’s my way of reaching out to other people that are also struggling under the weight of illness and disability.

@BeginnersMind-ArtMind Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching all the way through 💕 Yes, in mass tone in both the swatching and paintings if the paint is apply thickly it is shiny. As long as it is applied in a thin layer, like in the winter painting I did with the tree, it remains matte.
