RIP Andy. One of my favorites who blazed a path for Scottish folk music. Great voice, great stage presence and a great performer. This too was a "car fav" sung at the top of our lungs and will continue to be for as long as I have breath!

It reminds me a lot of some Cork songs, not just the songs but the way he sings it.

How can you not love this song? A grand cantering bit of a tune and clever, sharp words stitched together with elegant rhyming grace and precision.

"You may gain some satisfaction, thinking Jesus at least i tried" my favorite line. Maybe your grandfather was a great man. Maybe he wasn't. I'll never know. Made enough of an impact to be on your mind tho. My condolences for your loss

My friend got married this summer and he invited me. They had karoake at the reception and i sang this one. His grooms whole half of the family clapped along and made me feel so much less nervous about singing in front of people.

I am 36 and grew up with my parents playing these guys all the time. Now I sing this to my 4yo as a lullaby and the 11yo has latched onto 'if i was a blackbird' when she can't sleep. I hope they are in the afterlife living it up together.

Whether he was solo or with Silly Wizard, Andy M Stewart was the first Celtic musician whom I remember loving. His voice is incredible, and is the first I think of when I think of this beautiful genre.

Oh, there's sober men, and plenty And drunkards barely twenty There are men of over ninety that have never yet kissed a girl But gie me a ramblin' rover Fae Orkney down to Dover We will roam the country over, and together we'll face the world I've roamed through all the nations Ta'en delight in all creation And have tried a wee sensation where the company did prove kind When parting was no pleasure I've drunk another measure To the good friends that we treasure, for they always are in our mind Oh, there's sober men, and plenty And drunkards barely twenty There are men of over ninety that have never yet kissed a girl But gie me a ramblin' rover Fae Orkney down to Dover We will roam the country over, and together we'll face the world There's many that feign enjoyment From merciless employment Their ambition was this deployment from the minute they left the school And they save and scrape and ponder While the rest go out and squander See the world and rove and wander, and are happier as a rule Oh, there's sober men, and plenty And drunkards barely twenty There are men of over ninety that have never yet kissed a girl But gie me a ramblin' rover Fae Orkney down to Dover We will roam the country over, and together we'll face the world If you're bent with arthritis Your bowels have got colitis You've gallopin' bollockitis, and you're thinkin' it's time you died If you've been a man of action While you're lying there in traction You may gain some satisfaction thinking "Jesus, at least I tried!" Oh, there's sober men, and plenty And drunkards barely twenty There are men of over ninety that have never yet kissed a girl But gie me a ramblin' rover Fae Orkney down to Dover We will roam the country over, and together we'll face the world There's sober men, and plenty And drunkards barely twenty There are men of over ninety that have never yet kissed a girl But gie me a ramblin' rover Fae Orkney down to Dover We will roam the country over, and together we'll face the world
