Pokémon Y Hardcore Nuzlocke - DARK Types Only!

Dark types are mysterious and well-rounded Pokemon, but do have some glaring type weaknesses, especially in this game. With that said, what if we got access to the full spectrum of Ice encounters in Pokemon Y ... could they beat the game's hardest challenge - a hardcore nuzlocke with only Dark types?

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Y Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Dark types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

Synchronise the ability has a overworld use where wild pokemon you encounter has a 50% chance of having the same nature as your lead pokemon. That would explain why you pokemons has the same nature as Umberon

So yes, when they Mega they retain their base speed from the base form but gain the new speed stat on turn 2 after Mega. It wasnt until Alola that the speed change was dynamic and they gained the new speed on turn 1

In gen 6 the megas DO in fact retain their pre-mega speed stats so you were right. It’s why in vgc they would protect on the same turn they mega evolve because they want their new speed stat!

Being at -1 attack and burned is equilvolent to being at -4 attack, not -2. Being at neutral for any stat is equivalent of being at 2/2, when you go positive the numerator is increased and when you go negative the denominator is increased, so at -1 attack you're at 2/3rds attack. Burn halves your attack regardless of this, so (2/3)*(1/2)=(2/6), which is the same as what being at -4 attack sets you to, whereas -2 attack is only 2/4 (or 1/2)

I am currently going through a Dark type run in Scarlet! When I started, I had completely forgotten about some of the OG Dark types like Tyranitar, Umbreon, and Sneasel. I looked at a list of dark types available to me and saw all of those beautiful Dark types and then proceeded to facepalm at the ones I forgot existed!

From now on, if you're at a disadvantage, I now decree you utilize legendaries if the opponent is using Mega evolution/ Gigantamaxing/Teraforming and you captured the legendary Pokemon of the same typing. That or at least do a pokemon run of just legendaries if that's even possible. Amazing video none the less.

It's crazy they introduced the Supertraining in the easiest mainline games as if you won't already stomp it in any vanilla playthrough. But very beautiful region on the 3DS. And megas which they only gave the evil boss and the champ. They could easily gave every gym leader from the 5th onwards a Mega and every Elite four member. I like Kalos and look forward to Legends ZA but OR/AS are a bit better for me

15:47 weird idea, but ... why not use the old rod to get a Magicarp and then just treat Mega Gyarados as your designated dark Type mega Evolution? As long as you always mega-evolve it as soon as it enters battle I don't see an an issue with that. I would treat that the same as using pokemon that only gain the typing after evolution if there aren't any other encounters available at the time.
