Thanks for a nice review. Bought the trail runner free 2 ultra, very nice headlamp but I do experience this bouncing at the back from the battery case.

Love the review! Got this for myself for Christmas and have been using it a lot since. As a side note, the battery has been upgraded to use USB-C since your review, so that was a nice surprise to me.

Awesome, and that's really good to know! Appreciate you checking out the review. Hope you enjoy the headlamp.

I've used that lamp for a couple of weeks now. Yes it does not weigh much and takes little space. I use the AAA batteries, because they last longer. One drawback is the back of the lamp, pressed against the forehead. It has a tiny little piece of foam. It leaves a uncomfortable pressurepoint on the forehead. Their should be a complete foam backing on the lampunit !

Your suggestion would make it even more comfortable.

Bought this as I have the 5r, but needed something lighter, more comfortable and more geared towards daily use. The 5r is great for eventing, but overkill for everything else great as it is. The rear led is an awesome idea 👍 So I'll be grabbing the battery as well. I don't understand the 25hrs at 400 for the free?

Thanks for the video however, that background music totally ruins the audio experience

Thanks for recommending this head lamp. I can see why you like it better than the nitecore . Looks like it’s worth the extra money.

I got this as christmas present the exact model is Trail Runner Free and this did not include the battery. Am i correct that this model does not include it? Maybe i just missed it in the box?
@SeeChadRun3 жыл бұрын
There are three different versions. One that does not include any batteries and so you need to use AAA batteries, one that includes a rechargeable battery, and one that includes an ultra but bigger battery pack. You can buy the rechargeable battery as an extra item and is something that I'd recommend doing eventually.

How breathable is the headband compared to something like LED Lenser or Fenix? Thanks

Unfortunately, the headband is not very breathable.

It would be good to see the spot shape and evenness.

Fair enough. This was one of my earlier videos and I've learned a lot since. That said, I still use this headlamp to this day and have yet to find another headlamp that is as lightweight and has as good of lighting, both in terms of distance and spread.

I bought the Ultra recently and haven't been impressed. Comfort, build quality etc are superb but when it comes to the basic function of a headlamp ie lighting the trail in front of you, I found it pretty poor. It lights your immediate surroundings 6-8 feet in front and to the side of you very well but has a very short throw. When trying to navigate on the trails at night you can not see more than 10ft in front of you which makes navigating impossible. I've tried rotating the bulb up but it makes no difference. I've had £20 head lamps from Amazon that do everything better (floodlight and beam) for a quarter of the price. I was expecting so much more from a premium brand.

That's really interesting feedback. I feel like I can see plenty far in front... Assume both the LEDs turn on for your unit? Certainly strange indeed.

I just double checked the Silva website (had to do some digging) but the Trail Runner Free (basic version that uses AAA batteries) lasts 5 hrs 30 min in the 200 lumen setting (middle setting that I use most of the time). The downside is that once the AAA batteries are dead, you have to replace them. I'd recommend going with the Trail Runner Free H model, as that includes a rechargeable slim battery that lasts 5 hrs in the same 200 lumen setting. I find that I can run 3 mornings (usually using the headlamp for 1 hour each morning) before recharging the unit. That is also with a mixed 200 lumen and 400 lumen settings. The Trail Runner Free Ultra is nice because it offers 11 hrs of light at 200 lumens, BUT it's more bulky. The Ultra model also comes with the hybrid case so you can use AAA batteries or you can buy the rechargeable slim battery, which is the route that I went. Hope that helps!
