I am exactly between XL and L with 109cm measurement. What do you recommend? Smaller or Larger? Thanks
@SeeChadRun5 күн бұрын
It's hard to say without actually trying the vest on, but I would error on the size slightly smaller. If the vest is too large, then it will either bounce around more than is necessary and/or you'll have to cinch the front straps much tighter which may cause chafing issues on the shoulder straps near the neck.
@sofiamoschi19775 күн бұрын
How would you compare these to the salomon genesis? Thank you and keep up the good work 😁
@SeeChadRun5 күн бұрын
Is a good question! There are quite a few differences between the two shoes, but I feel like the Genesis is probably the slightly better shoe overall. The Genesis has a stronger and more breathable upper and is a little more agile, although it's not as accommodating as it has a more narrow fit. Both feel great underfoot and offer awesome traction. The Voyage 3 has a wider platform and may offer a little more stability. I don't think you can go wrong either way, but my money would be spent on the Salomon Genesis.

The 4L Racepac is on my shortlist. The other is the Adidas Terrex Techrock 5L which is reduced from £140 to £80 on black friday offer. The Techrock has the water flasks included. But Id only need one 500ml I think so that would bump up the Inov8 Racepac to £70. I think I prefer the minimalist look of the Inov8. Im not keen on the prominent Terrex branding. But is it a much better pack do you reckon?
@SeeChadRun8 күн бұрын
I can't say how the INOV8 RACEPAC compares to the TERREX pack, but it isn't great value. Personally, I'd choose the RACEPAC 8 over the 4 as it adds a little more versatility without bulk. I continue to use this pack and I've been very pleased with it.

Thanks Chad! Great review! I agree with you on all comments. This IMO is the best overall trail super shoe. I haven’t been wearing hoka for years now, but this is so thoughtfully built and increases performance while reducing fatigue. Plus, the big bonus- you don’t ever feel the plate! I ran a mtn 50k with no blisters or hotspots. (Toe socks work great with this model as well.) Very stable with the carbon wings and does moderately well in tech terrain because of it. The heel for some was an issue, but seems to work fine for me. This and the Speedland GS:PDX(with plate in) are my go to long distance shoes. Speedland model does cross over and works better for daily training I would say, Tx3 is better for special outings and racing. Cheers!

I am a D1 runner for an underamour school. Had the same problem with these, learned I was tieing them too tight. You have to have the laces super loose all the way; way to finicky but feel good when they are loose.. Honestly, I dont do much mileage in them but they are decent when tied right. Lots of guys on the do all there easy mileage in them 80+ miles. Try running in them way looser than you think you need.

I watched your review of the Topo Mtn Racer 3. For a wide footed runner just looking for a sort of single shoe to do it all trail runner, mostly longer slow runs, would you recommend the wide fit SG6 over the TMR 3? I was hoping to find a shoe that was protective, good on different types of trail, generally not super technical, but there are a lot of hills on most trails here (Canada east coast), and a fair bit of windy single track. I was looking forward to a bit of a fun ride, not a super aggressive one, and I am now maybe leaning towards the Topo, even though it's about $60 more expensive here. I worry a little about durability of the Topo. I don't imagine it will last much beyond 400-500kms, whereas the firmer Hoka seems like a tank. Should I consider anything else: the Broooks Cascadia, Saucony Peregrine, New Balance Hierro, (Salomon shoes are generally narrow and do not come in a wide fit version like the Cascadia, Speedboat & Peregrine). I've also looked at Norda's, but though wider, they are still not nearly as wide as Topo or wide fits of the shoes I mentioned.
@SeeChadRun11 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching the videos! I really like the Topo MTN Racer 3 but feel that the SG6 midsole will last a little longer and offer more protection underfoot. The Salomon Genesis is a great all-around trail shoe but is more narrow fitting. The La Sportiva Prodigio is also worth considering as the midsole feels good and it has a rock plate for protection, and it is a little wider than a Solomon but not as much as a Topo. The Prodigio actually fits similar to the SG6. I also haven't been impressed with Altra's trail shoes as of late, nor did I like the Brooks Caldera 7. As for Saucony, Merrell, Speedland, New Balance, I'm trying to get shoes from each of those brands to review on the channel soon. I will be reviewing the Nike Zegama 2 and North Face Altamesa 500 in the coming weeks as well.
@hamoudalnasser11 күн бұрын
How firm is that midsole compared to similar "jack of all trades" trail shoes like the Cascadia, Peregrine, Hierro, etc...? I thought the GOATs were always renowned for their bouncy comfort. Is this like NB making a firm 1080 or something?
@SeeChadRun11 күн бұрын
The midsole was more firm than I expected compared to what I had heard and seen in past versions... As for recommendations, I'll reply to your other comment on that. Thanks for watching my videos!

Can you use them for urban use?
@SeeChadRun12 күн бұрын
If by Urban use you mean running on the sidewalks and streets, they will work great in snowy conditions but in dry conditions the midsole is a bit rough and the rubber lugs are a bit knobby. I have seen a handful of people use these as casual shoes, and they seem to hold up fine.

Hey Chad! Greetings from Finland, thanks a lot for your good review(s). Beautiful scenery you have there for your runs. One thing I would add is some speculation or experience of the longevity of the shoes. Hoka does not really have that good reputation on that regard, which is why I went with VJ maxx2 (along with preference of VJ being from around here). VJ longetivity is good, easily going 2000 km’s or 1250 miles. Hokas usually last around 500miles. However, still interested buying these or VJ Lightspeed to accompany my new maxx2’s. Any takes on this comparison, with durability on mind? Anyway, thanks a lot and greetings from new subscriber!👌🏻
@SeeChadRun12 күн бұрын
Thanks for subscribing! The Hoka Tecton X 3 Is made with some pretty solid materials compared to their other trail shoes so hopefully longevity and durability are much better. That said, and as you know, I really like the VJ offerings including the MAXx2.

I've got the ADV Skin 5 vest and have been very pleased with it. I've used it for a majority of my races and many long runs. In my mind it's still the overall pick that I recommend and ultimately end up comparing other packs against... And while the INOV8 RACEPAC 8 may not have quite as many features, it's less than half the price and will still work great in training and races. Plus, the choice of materials and build quality matches that of the Solomon's. Cheers!

@rundavidrun7613 күн бұрын
Hey Chad! Great video. Glad you found the maker of those tracks so early on your run. Following strange tracks can be a little intimidating in the Colorado Foothills… you never know what (who) you’ll run across! With most running shoes, I find that I wear a full size up (even with my Altra Timp 4’s and their wide toe box). You think these VJ’s are true to size to the point where one wouldn’t need to size up? That 8/10mm drop discrepancy is odd. Love the look and performance review enough to consider this shoe. I’m slightly hesitant at that price point though. I don’t have anything meant for snowy/slushy winter runs. I’ve been relying on my Timp 4’s and thick wool socks or any trail shoe that still has decent tread. 😂 My only other working solution is to strap the YakTrax onto any old pair of shoes, but I’ve got nothing waterproof. Might bite the bullet, especially if the return/exchange policy is good and I can get the right size. I’ve never heard of VJ before but I trust your judgement because I know you put a lot of miles and thought into your reviews! Thanks!
@rundavidrun7613 күн бұрын
Huh…upon further review, VJ’s “free return and package protection” costs $4. If you deselect this option when ordering, you are liable for return shipping. Not sure why they’re even using the word “free.” 🤷 Not a deal breaker, but we’re already paying $180 for the shoe. I’ve no experience with this company. Free exchange to get the right fit would be nice.
@SeeChadRun13 күн бұрын
That $4 free return shipping is a little odd. Since you're local, I'd be happy to let you check out the shoe in person. I think it's a great shoe for winter running! I generally don't size up in any of my shoes and it fit me just the same as any other typical size, so if you generally size up, you may consider the same in this shoe. As always, thanks for checking out the video and keep crushing those trails!
@kgenest10013 күн бұрын
Thanks Chad for the review. I am also a big VJ fan, especially for winter running in snow. I have been using their original « Ultra » as my main winter running shoe. That thing is built like a tank! Last year I got the Ice Hero on sale, as I was not impressed by the weight gain on the Ace. These Ice Hero are super light for spiked winter shoes… but not waterproof… which is rarely needed in my local trails. For a Goretex-like waterproof shoe, I am eyeing the La Sportiva Cyklon GTX with 7mm lugs and a built-in gaiter. I think they will be a better option than these XTER… except for the EVA midsole of the Cyklon…
@SeeChadRun13 күн бұрын
I've really been impressed with VJ's newer shoes. They're a lot of fun to run! I could see the justification to have a non-waterproof winter running shoe. There's definitely situations where you want good traction, but you don't need the waterproofing/lack and breathability and added weight. Thanks for dropping the comment and checking out the video!

Will you get to test VJ Sarva Icehero 2?
@SeeChadRun14 күн бұрын
I'm not planning on getting the VJ Sarva Icehero 2, which looks similar to the XTER but with a non-waterproof upper, studs (great for ice), and a slightly different midsole formula more similar to the MAXx2, which I also loved! In the US, the Icehero isn't offered and instead, we have the ACE, which is the same as the XTER but with studs underfoot.
@sunnlands14 күн бұрын

How refreshing to see a product being such good value for money in 2024! Based on your review, seems like Inov8 could have added an extra $20-30 on the price tag and still seem kind of ok. I wonder if they're prepared to take the profit hit in order to establish a broader customer base for their vests/other products in the future. I like how the vest looks - simple design (not overengineered), looks pretty solid and well thought out. If you consider it only comes in one color (I think), no flasks and only 3 sizing options, you can see where they have cut costs. Fine with me and credit to Inov8 for this one. Will be interesting to see how it holds up over longer term use, multiple washes etc, but it looks pretty good.
