Silvania silverstar zXe headlight review

As most of my subs already know, I am a huge led flashlight and spotlight nut. So recently when one of my headlights blew, I decided to go with something different.I would have loved to drop an led module in and get the same bright output of my flashlights. Unfortunately led technology is too new to the headlight market to be a viable option. So I am giving the ZXE bulbs a chance, because as far as I know they are going to be the closest to pure white output without having to go with an HID conversion kit. These bulbs have a much brighter output over stock halogen bulbs(4100k vs 3200k with normal halogens), but will not reach the output level of xenon or led headlight bulbs. They are however an easy and legal alternative. I am actively researching various 9003 / H4 bi-xenon conversion kits as an even further upgrade to these lights. But as of right now, even with a $50-$60 price tag they perform pretty good.

I just put these on my 03 Civic Sedan and they definitely are a welcome change. I ended up replacing the entire headlight unit for a new one (I tried to restore the old ones but they were stock with 200k+ miles on them so I went on ebay and found OE lights for around $20 for the pair) This is definitely a good representation of these lights. I'm bummed as you say they only last about a year but for the quality I'll enjoy every use I get out of them at night.

I have used all Silverstar bulbs and I like the original 4k Silverstar the most. It lasts more than 2 years, it's reasonably priced and it's bright enough for urban driving. Though I also have it in an Autopal H4 housing.

Hey man thanks for this review. Love these headlights. However I'm finding that I have no depth with mine as I see with yours. It's been like that since day one. When I stand in front it's super bright, which I think is good for the drivers and pedestrians from oncoming traffic. But I need to see in depth like I see you do with yours. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue so I can see farther?

re: hippo potamus The ultras produce more light, I went with the zXe bulbs to get the whitest light possible out of a halogen bulb. If you want the brightest overall output, the ultras are the better bulb. I no longer have this setup as I have switched to a morimoto 4300k HID system.

Paul Michael Santos Yes, but these bulbs usually only last 1 year because of the higher burn temp. Daytime running lights would probably lessen the overall life much quicker

Christian Rios ultras are better.. these zxe are just for an HID white look. But the ultras are brighter.

Still have the vans, but plan on getting rid of them soon. The green van had too many issues.

What did you do to restore the headlight lenses? Mine are pretty oxidized even though I just bought the zxe's today I was wondering how to remove the oxidation

I hand buffed most of it out with toothpaste, then used meguiar's plast-X clear plastic cleaner and polish. It supposedly seals the headlights too, but I went ahead and put a coat of wax on them just to be sure. You might have to repeat the first two steps a few times if your lens is really oxidized. There is an update to this video coming soon, since I upgraded to HID xenon.
