The OSRAM Night Breakers are not available for the 9007 bulbs. I've been quite pleased with the SYVANIA SilverStar Ultra bulbs. Much better then the OEM bulbs, and also better then the PHILLIPS Extreme bulbs. Seriously noticeable improvement. I like the very informative charts on your website.

Thanks! The Silverstar Ultra's are among the brightest, and while we recommended the OSRAM NBU's in this video, much newer tests prove the Ultra's are a bit brighter. Just keep in mind that you'll see about 50% of the life compared to an original bulb, but it's a trade-off worthy of the new output.

OEM's have lasted me 6 years. I have LED daytime lights so the bulbs are not used in day. They were just "okay" when new( didn't drive much highway) Now I am driving highway, can't see nothing, plus they are more yellow than white! Bought the Sylvania Ultra's. WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE!!! I had bad luck with the #1s before in last car so bought the Ultras at local store for convenience. I know I will need to change them much more often than OEM, but worth it bigtime! Only takes 10 min to change both. Thanks for reviews!!!

Thanks for sharing, great to hear! The Ultra's are really a great overall bulb, as they tested extremely well in all applications on our bench. You can expect about 50% of the lifespan from them, but it's well worth the trade-off in output and safety.

@Davil ~~~ Good point about _"overdriving our headlights"._ I intentionally slow down a bit at night---going just under the 100kph speed limit, (especially on 4-lane highways where others can easily pass me). If you can't see *_it_* in time, you can't keep from plowing into it!

Thank you for this video! I was running the silverstar ultras in my Jeep grand Cherokee and I was not very happy with them. They are not much brighter or whiter than stock. (However, in my dodge Journey they are great). I swapped them out for the Osram Nightbreaker, wow what a difference! I wasn't expecting much of a difference since you claimed only 2% brighter than the ultras, but these are much brighter and whiter! I'm very happy with these bulbs!!!

As per your info, I better change them out. Thanks, new sub.

Thanks for the support! The Silverstar Ultra's are our go-to recommendation, as they're so readily available at local stores. Just be sure to consider the lifespan, as they won't last quite as long as original or long-life bulbs. Worth the trade-off for most people though. I should have a new halogen review video up soon as well, hopefully next month some time. But our website always has the latest on what we test and recommend.

How about these vs LED? Which type is brighter overall? (especially in high beams as my factory lows are pretty incredible already)
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, LEDs will typically be brighter, especially in a low beam. High beam halogens can be of a higher wattage, sometimes beating out even the better LED models. So it's hard to say, but take a look at our test chart to see how they compare to a standard halogen bulb. www.bulbfacts.com/led-kits/chart/
@martytdd1606
@martytdd1606 5 жыл бұрын
I have these bulbs fitted to a 2005 Mistsubishi lancer elegance. The headlight is fine but the high beam (Main beam in UK) is useless. When the main beam is turned on there's a big shadow cast down on the road in front of you, the rest of the beam is thrown out ahead high but is very dim for a main beam. Maybe the factory Lancer headlight is contributing to the effect but the standard yellow bulbs didn't do this. Definitely looking for replacements.
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Marty, thanks for sharing! It sounds like the bulb may be seated incorrectly perhaps, or debris in the slot. If it is not exactly positioned you may get some funky beams. Let us know if you do switch to something else and the issue goes away!

I would rather not mix and match if I don't have to. If I had to can you guide me to get choices for the best ones? Sylvania and Osram don't seem to offer anything but OEM replacement.
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Joseph. H9 is typically very limited unfortunately, but the bulb is very bright as a higher wattage (65W) and larger glass bulb compared to H11 (55W). There are a few upgrade choices though, like the Sylvania Silverstar, OSRAM CBB (whiter color), but they won't be too different otherwise compared to stock/OE. Here is our full test chart (based on a 55W bulb): www.bulbfacts.com/halogen-bulbs/chart/ You could also take a look at an LED conversion as well (www.bulbfacts.com/led-kits/chart/), but in a high beam the difference is smaller compared to a low beam LED upgrade. Hope that helps!

Man I spend maybe $60-$70 for led bulbs on amazon. Worked good for about the first 5 months then I noticed (really had to pay attention to notice it) it would start to flicker just a tiny bit. Then after that they wouldn’t be fully lit if I turned on the headlights. So I had to run them through as parking lights since my truck had day time running lights. Then today noticed one of them wouldn’t turn on... smh just going back to halogen bulbs.

What's the best high beam halogen for brightness? Don't care for color temp

Hi Teddy & Gyro! The best Halogen for high beam would be the Flosser High Wattage kit. I just got done testing it recently in fact, and it ranked #1 in high-beam performance in our tests, and is only $19 on eBay (ebay.to/2OY4F3K). Remember that the higher wattage will run hotter, but if it's high-beams I wouldn't worry too much. The next choice for a normal wattage would be the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra (amzn.to/2QlaZ5L). It's still very good but is a bit more expensive at around $45 depending on size. I hope that helps!

Hi Marlon - We plan to do lifespan tests in the future, but if you don't have DRL's I would highly recommend an upgrade. It will depend then on how much you run your lights and drive at night of course, but on average you should get at least 3 years out of them. Just be careful not to touch the bulbs as that will dramatically shorten the lifespan as the oil from fingers heats them up more, just use rubbing alcohol to clean before installing. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
@technicalnonsense
@technicalnonsense 6 жыл бұрын
It’s better to measure the lifespan in terms of hours rather than days or years. I had a pair of philips xtreme vision halogen in car and they were great; however I noticed that they had started to dim around 250 hours of use and one burnt out at about 400 hours For some people that could be 2 years but with amount of driving I do plus the fact that I like to drive with my lights on during the day, the bulbs only lasted 7 months for me. In terms of lifespan I’ve found that philips bulb generally last a bit longer than the Osram counterpart
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Philip - You are spot on. They are better rated in hours, however manufacturers typically use years as some people don't understand the hour ratings. BulbFacts I defiantly agree with those statement I did some personal testing between the Philips Xtreme Vision to the Osram Night Breaker Unlimited and found that the Osram is indeed brighter and slightly more white but... this is just my subjective opinion , it seems that the Philips has a better beam pattern characteristic that puts more useable light on the road.
