Just because a coin/bar sounds pleasant to the ears doesn’t mean it’s real!
Always use multiple testing methods.
Weight, dimensions, magnet, ping.
Minimum.
If you cant find the official dimensions, official weight, the item is too bulky to ping, or too it’s small to trust a magnet - Check out Specific Gravity.
The more tests the better.

The fake 1 oz silver bars will always have a higher pitch to them. The key is having both a fake and a legit one to compare the tones with......one after the other. After a short amount of time comparing the fake bar to the real ones.....the tones will be very distinguishable. Like anything else, it comes down to practice. You'll get the hang of it, no problem.

Hey, awesome! Yeah, always best to buy reputable when you can. The road deals are the best deals though! Small town pawn shops can be a fun and fruitful experience. If anything ever comes up let me know, here to help

Honestly…each one sounds different. Not good consistency. I think your pinger is a useful low-dollar tool, but only in conjunction with the app that can actually measure the wavelengths for correctness. Doing this by ear is still largely guesswork. The problem with the app, though, is that they want you to subscribe. I do not stack silver so that I can constantly bleed money from my wallet every month renting this app. An app should be sold for a ONE TIME FIXED PRICE - PERIOD. I have always resisted the “subscription model” because it will break you financially. Only an idiot allows someone to essentially insert a digital straw into their wallet so that they can suck money out of your account FOREVER. It’s like you never own a damn thing. Screw that. You need to find a developer to make you your own propriety app to go with your picker pinger. Just increase your price a little bit to cover the cost of developing the app and fixing bugs. You’ll sell a hell of a lot more of these pingers if you do that. To hell with those Chinese app developers. They are TOO GREEDY. 😡

Really great advice! I've always been uncertain about bars so I don't have any one ounce bars. I guess there's always going to be someone who will try to cheat on anything!

Yes, and bars are a little tough because of all the variety! Similar to rounds it took about 7 different bars to start and hear a trend in them

@@SoundMoneyMetals Don't know if I'm holding too tight or not tight enough. Precise striking and I haven't mastered reading the ping on the app. Not big selection for certain unique coins and rounds in Bullion test and Ping coin. I'm a mess with it ! Lol 😠

Hold it flat when you ping it. Also thickness will change the sound. Strong magnets would have probably revealed them as fakes. For a LCS to be fooled is amazing. How many did he sell to his customers?

What was it made of? Was it plated with actual silver? Im curious as to what other metals could pass as silver. Especially considering how light silver feels.
@SoundMoneyMetals
@SoundMoneyMetals Жыл бұрын
I’m not exactly sure what’s it’s made of. It’s likely Silver Plated and has had a Copperish color core. If I can remember I’ll take it to an XRF machine and try to get a material breakdown. I’ve heard lead is used to fill Silver bars because of the similar density. Hope this helps! Anything else let me know

@@SoundMoneyMetals Helps for sure. I appreciate your response. Coin shop owners know their stuff and will closley inspect even a small purchase of 90%, and are on high alert with generic bars or rounds. So your story really caught my interest. The counterfieter must have done a really good job to get 100oz past 2 seperate dealers. Knowing how they did it would give us things to look for or test.

The APMEX bar here is real, if you can, try to also listen for the initial pop of sound that the bar makes and compare that with the others.

I think that you have your facts mixed up. A dull and barely distinguishable tone. Where as a true silver will give a long resonance. I’m not a professional but I’m pretty sure that is how it goes. I’ve dealt with racks and real ones in a side by side and the result was just as I described above.
