Silver Brazing Carbide to Mild Steel

Intersting iv only ever silver solder for the rc boat drives I had a curiosity about carbide thank you for your demo

Love the idea of using a firebrick for brazing! I've only ever done silicon bronze TIG brazing, but I've been wanting to make a scraper, and possibly some tooling for my lathe with carbide. Good job!

Larry, good demo, I have built live-steam loco boilers and fabricated using 1/8 copper tube and sheet and it takes a lot of heat to get there but once it does the solder flows beautifully and it's very strong like I said I added 3 small notches in the edge contacting the carbide for added strength,

Thanks for the video! Gonna try silver soldier on some grinder teeth. They use braise from the factory and I’ll have to heat it to remove the nail.

I'm sorry it has been to long for me to remember exactly, but when using the acetylene I do find that the black high temp flux works best.

Try that silver solder on a piece of copper. Great job, I have a couple of those scrapers and the carbide will mark almost everything you can imagine, cheers!

Howder: I almost never work with copper. My only attempts have been with steel and brass. The oxy/acetylene is pretty hot for the brass, but for steel works fine. Regards: Larry

Nice video sir! Looked like the substrate was heated too hot by looking at the color. Wont that be an issue?

Hopefully Not..........It has been working fine. I'm sure things were over heated.
