I was more into how despondent Marty was when watching his friends play baseball. The sadness in his face revealing how he wishes he can walk and run like everyone else. The scene to me lets me know how everyone has something they wish they had and how we all focus more on what we don't have than what we do have.

I know this is an old comment, but I just wanted to clarify that is not the typical Reverend Lowe when not in wolf form. As the full moon draws closer, he becomes more aggressive and loses his humanity, thus his behavior toward Marty out of revenge. It may just be a theory of minor detail, but you can begin to notice that he isn't as well shaven and eloquently spoken in this state as opposed to earlier in the film when he is an "upstanding member of community." He really does feel remorse, as shown in his dream sequence of guilt, warning the townspeople not to pursue the beast, and even going to the extent of locking himself in his garage...it's the fact that his sanity was slipping due to his condition worsening toward the time of its peak that made him this way.

Heaven Toms I think Reverend Lowe already lost his humanity the moment he got shot in the eye as a werewolf. Even though he's in human form during this moment, the werewolf was still taking over Lowe's body which is why he is now willing to kill Marty in broad daylight.
