The only way up to this point I've seen silver refined to 999 was thru an electrolytic silver cell. So it's really nice to know that there are other ways of doing it. Don't get me wrong the silver cells silver crystals are beautiful but this seems to eliminate several steps in order to produce a highly refined product. Thank you so much AK. Videos like this prove there is still so much for me to learn. Every day is an opportunity to grow. Nice one friend. My fingers get black just watching this video! Your HHO torch does a great job. And I just wanted to share that when I add salt Silver Nitrate to make Silver Chloride, if I add HCl after the point where no more precipitates with salt alone, I get some more AgNo3 with the addition of HCl. You may be throwing silver away. But hopefully you are recycling salts from your used solutions.

I always use sodium hydroxide, and then glycerin to get my silver powder do you think it is cleaner to cement it out with aluminum??
@akgoldbear7669
@akgoldbear7669 5 ай бұрын
Both methods are good. The main thing is to clean the silver oxide well. Silver oxide after sodium hydroxide and sugar must be washed with boiling water many times to remove all the glucose. Silver oxide after aluminum must be boiled a couple of times in hydrochloric acid. The reduction of silver with sodium hydroxide occurs five times faster 🙂

@@akgoldbear7669 Silver nitrate is silver nitrate- that's about the only thing right in your post. 1) Could you please write the formula in which silver chloride becomes silver nitrate? 2) Since you won't write the formula (because it doesn't exist), could you at least explain how chlorine turned into nitrogen? Because there is no nitrogen in the solution, or where did the nitrogen come from in the first place?

@@BohumilGraman Silver chloride AgCl is formed as a white precipitate when soluble silver salts react. Ag+ + CI- = AgCl↓ Silver nitrate AgNO₃ is a reagent for hydrochloric acid, since when interacting with salts, silver chloride is formed HCl+AgNO3⟶AgCl↓+HNO3 ... NaCl+AgNO3⟶AgCl↓+NaNO3 And only after melting AgNO₃ silver nitrate at 962 °C does metallic silver Ag formed. And now I'm going to drink green tea with lemon, raspberries and honey! @akgoldbear7669
@akgoldbear7669 6 ай бұрын
Hello. I boiled silver oxide in hydrochloric acid twice and that was enough. It all depends on the amount of aluminum mixed with silver oxide. When i cleaning gold or silver, I understand on the spot whether it’s worth boiling more or whether it’s enough. Usually the eyes say: oh no, you need to boil more, or oooooo the material is absolutely clean! If after boiling the solution crystal clear, like water from the sink, that means enough. With coming New Year to you. 🙂

Silver chloride converts to silver oxide then silver metal with the lye and sugar method, not nitrate. Silver nitrate is the silver dissolved in nitric acid. There should be more silver. Perhaps in the hcl used to rinse the silver oxide. I do contacts from automotive relays and yielded %61 silver by weight. I did 31.1 grams of contacts in nitric, cemented it on copper and got 19.1 grams silver. Again, not .999 but will be food for my silver cell In this process, 300ml of nitric was used. Thats almost if not enough nitric to process the whole batch. Ive never used sulphuric in refining silver, ever. Plenty of videos out here on how to refine silver using several methods.
