Silver Quarter found Coin Roll Hunting in Canada!

short story for you. Last year I went to the Bank for a roll of quaters to do laundry. When I opened the end there was a 1966 staring at me, after further inspection all the coins were from 1944 to 1969 with some gaps and multiplies. what a lucky find. bet it won't happen again.

Great video. I just bought a 1967 fish dime. Now I am looking for a quarter, half dollar and dollar from 1967. Not easy to find in Minnesota .

Congratulations for your Bobcat! These are the coolest ones to find CRH (in my opinion) even though they can be either 80% or 50%. The second cool thing is of course to sound test the coin, and when you dropped it on the table, it appears to be 50%. I yet have to find a Bobcat, but hope for silver is always there, as my latest find is a 1968 silver, and when I drop it, it has that high-pitch sound similar to your drop, produced by the 50% copper we don't find as obvious in 80% quarters... I may be wrong because through Internet and YT is not totally like in person... I would take either composition all day, and I was so happy to find that 1968. It has strong dark toning all around, and by the edge it looked like it could be a heavy discolored modern quarter. This roll was short at the bank, and the teller seemed to want to swith it with another one, but I insisted in keeping it and she gave me a quarter to fill it. This roll, with another one, was a 2-roll mini collection dump, full of Olympic, provincial, millenium, a few colorized and American. Nearly all quarters in these 2 roll were in these categories, except 2 from the 70s in average condition, and... that dark silver! We never know what customers will turn in, and that's the hope for our hobby...

It sounds like you have good ears. I have lots of these bobcats, and I can't discern the difference in a drop-test or ping test. Either way - finding silver is great!!

Nice hunt, James! Loads of die chips on the US State quarters. You are correct there has been much disappointment when viewing edges and thinking you snagged a silver only to be a nonmagnetic Canadian coin.😭

How can you tell if it’s 50% or 80% silver?

You can't easily tell without a machine. Some folks will tell you they sound different, but I can't tell difference. The specification (e.g., weight) are exactly the same.

When you go to the bank, do you ask for some rolls little by little until you have a box, or you just ask for a box of quarters? When I ask for a large amount they go to the bank and get fresh/uncirculated rolls which I don't want. So how do you get so many customer rolled coins? tell me ur strategy. (btw love the vids!!!)

I tell them what denomination I'm interested in and how many rolls I'm looking for. If I'm looking for a full box, I'll let them know that (or often they'll ask). The tellers all know that I'm looking for customer-wrapped rolls. If we can't tell right away, we'll open the box. Often they can only give me some of what I'm looking for. A bundle or two (10 rolls per bundle). The next time I'll either ask for a full box or however many bundles I'll need to put together a full box for a hunt.
