Silver Scorpion Strikes Back!

Most people believe that knowing Jiu Jitsu shouldn't be considered a superpower. Ironically, those are the same people who don't kow Jiu Jitsu. Silver Scorpion is not one of those people.

I have to say, the fight scenes are really nicely done, with varied and fun moves. If this was live action it would be great to watch. Also, the Chantanooga line is about a famous train and popular song of the time. Chantanooga Choo Choo.

The artist on this story, Sahle, also did a few other female characters like Miss Vistory and Kitten, Catmans partner. His women were notable for being kinda buff. They look like they are strong enough to kick some ass. Rare for comics in general.

I think batgirl originally designed her costume for a costume party as well .

I'm not upset about her costume. The original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, wore a red shirt, red boots, and a purple cape. The only Green part of his costume, was his pants.

Batgirl almost beat for beat stole the Silver Scorpion's origin. Costume ball and an accidental discovery of criminals. Even the jiu-jitsu/judo training. Barbara stopped Killer Moth, but Silver Scorpion took out half a dozen counterfeiting thugs.

If she’s gonna be the sliver scorpion they should have given her sliver gloves like the swat kats glove tricks but with different sprays .

If you want to see another badass female character try and find someone called Madame Strange. She only has maybe three appearances but is a pretty hardcore hero ftom the 40s. She fought against the Japanese in Hawaai. Another great character is Diana, the partner of some guy named Boomerang, She shows up in his adventures, becomes his partner and totally outclasses him.

Honestly, those would have been better names. Did you see in the 90s when she actually got a spiky silver costume? Look it up. It suits her gimmick better.

Jiu Jitsu was a new thing at the time. As a martial art it still held some illusion of mysticism but for the most part it was understood as being a very practical form of self defense. Something it still is to this day.

I have to wonder how many female superheroes showed up long before Wonder Woman.

By my count there is at least 12 instances where a female hero or villain appeared in comics before Wonder Woman but I don't know everything. For all we know there could be even more than that.

Well with a silver scorpion on her belt and cape, I guess I'll give it a pass. But come on people yellow and red costume? Not gonna make a whose he gonna call joke. Not gonna do it. Gonna think it real hard. What do you mean nothing scary? People under bedsheets have been scary since the 1930's. Well maybe not past the 2000s Set up your criminal hideout right next to where someone live. Criminal masterminds here ladies and gents. Oddly enough this origin story would be reused years later for when Barbra Gordon became Batgirl. So phony ghosts a phony psychic and an ugly maker. Well we almost had a theme to her villians. The doctor predicts another ransom demand and tells her to pay....Hum if only there was a clue to the bad guy. Sorry but the power of Jiu Jitsu is too great. For the world only the most noble souls may be allowed to learn it.
