7:45 I've been hunting here in the States for almost two years, and I've found quite a few interesting/improbable things beyond the "run of the mill" silver/old coins (as if silver can be run of the mill). -My most improbable find wasn't from a roll, but in the reject bin at my dump bank's coin machine: an 1878-CC Seated Liberty quarter! -Not one, but two Barber dimes in rolls this year, an 1897 and a 1901. I also found an 1897 Barber half in a box last year. -A 1911 Canadian dime -A British penny from 1903 (that one isn't quite as unique; those turn up from time to time in half dollar boxes, since they're within 1 mm of each other in diameter) -Also British, a 1966 sixpence in a box of pennies (British "silver" coins were last struck in actual silver in 1946, unfortunately) -A 1926-S buffalo nickel (the lowest mintage of the entire series, at only 970,000), albeit in terrible condition -An assortment of foreign coins (old Mexican 50 centavos, British 20 pence, et cetera) that are different shapes than American coins, yet somehow made their way into my rolls

Hey! Long time watcher of your channel (almost a year and a half), just subscribed now, i'm a beginner Canadian coin hunter from the eastcoast that started out recently early March this year. For your question, im gonna share three of my wildest finds. For my beginners luck as a improbable find, I was at work sorting out the cash register, and i broke into a roll of quarters that was bank wrapped (transit roll i assume) and i found a 1914 king george the 5th quarter, smoothed out, but beautiful, my first silver in the wild ever, and got hooked to coin hunting ! I always carry pocket change if i find anything interesting, so it was all legal haha. I started slow by going with bundles of coins after that, and soon built the courage to ask for boxes at some branches. I do quarters, dimes, and nickels, and dimes are my absolute favorite because they are chalk full of silver in my region at least, i'm up 25 silver dimes for the year! I haven't had much luck on quarters for silver(6 for the year), but i find plenty of key dates semi key dates and colour. My first silver dime was the 1967 fish(my favorite commemorative ) out of a bundle i bought at my bank, but my two most improbable finds for dimes was a 1953 silver roasie, Denver minted from a entire roll of American dimes, it was very dirty, so i think somebody missed it. Months later, i did a box, and found a 1932 panama silver balboa 1/10 dime, only 150k minted ! in amazing shape with details, and somehow ended up in the maritimes ! I love your channel, and i always watch every upload you do, i appreciate the fun videos and knowledge you bring to (lucky)novices like myself 😁

Thanks so much for commenting (and for subscribing!) - I really appreciate it! You've had some great finds. That KG5 dime is a crazy find in dimes! Something I've never found. I had a similar experience to you with your US Dimes. I picked up a bundle of dimes from the bank and two of them were complete US dimes. Each roll had 1 silver dime in it. It was just before I started my KZbin channel. That would have been a great hunt to do a video on!

My coolest US dime find was a 1982 with no mintmark. Starting in 1980, every dime produced by the US was supposed to have either a P or D mintmark on the circulated coins. In 1982 Something happened at the Philadelphia mint and a number of coins were released with no mintmark.

3 silver in your box! That is great! Canadian dimes are good for me as well, with silver. The latest ones are a 1968 50%, quite nice, and a 1955 80%. However, the most surprising things I found in dimes lately, was a bacnk planchet with a little bit of circulation marks (scuffs), and it weigh 1.75g, so it must be a modern blank planchet for 2001&up dimes. I also found, last month, a 1999P dime! At first I thought it was as rare as the 2000P, and that I had hit an instang jackpot, but upon checking on Internet, this one sells $10 to $15, and was issued only in exerimental sets in 1999 testing the new steel planchets. Still, it is a great find. Last week, I got a box of white machine quarter rolls, and upon checking, some old coins were included, so I took it since it means it's not ARP. Not as many old coins as the hand customer wrapped rolls, but I did find so far 2 x 1970 quarters, where 1 is AU or better, and, believe it or not, a 2008 colorized Santa Claus quarter! I checked, and this one is minted in the 45000 or so examples, so 10 x more rare than the 1991. These were issued in special gift sets, and there are some made each year, as well as for Canada Day. It seems a collection dump has been scattered through this batch of 2001+ machine wrapped quarters (average of only 1-2 older in each roll). I still have 10 rolls or so to open, and I think they'll be a delight to check hoping there is another goodie... American quarters are a bit larger than Canadian in diameter, so they don't fit well in plastic holders, so I believe it's why these didn't survive for long in USA. I can determine by touch if there is a USA quarter in a roll, when I feel a small bump when I pass my fingernail on the edges. I do this also on machine wrapped rolls, meaning if I find just one that has USA, I can assume there is old Canadian too... Let's wish us good luck to save more silver, and other goodies, from the ARP monsters!! Have you ever found a Santa Claus coin, Canada Day, or other mint set-only coin, while CRH?
@CADRollHunter Жыл бұрын

Plastic rollers were available in the US during the mid to late 1980s. They were not popular and quickly disappeared. The clasp failures required taping rolls, which led to their disappearance. I have found several proof coins in my searches. Nothing valuable, but definitely surprising.
