Replaced the bedside on a 2002 Chevy Silverado, the truck was pretty old but still running well 200k plus miles on it. Take care of your cars and they'll do you some justice. Thanks for watching , rate, comment , and subscribe for more cool stuff.

Well done kiddo.. for future bedside R&R, no need to air hammer 90% off first. You're still going and grinding all your spot welds off with or without the panel there. A guy I work with used to do the same thing and he kinda fought me on it, I just showed him there is no need. But if that's what you like to do, there is nothing wrong with it. I'm a collision technician myself 20 years now. Bedsides are still my fav job to do. Pays a minimum of 12 hours and I have it down to 1 1/2 hours from first weld grind off to rolling the bed over to paint dept. Gravyyyyyy

Good video! You should invest in the drill bit for those spot welds. That way you don't gotta grind them and chisel them. They just come loose with the drill bit. I might even try to do my own bed sides. Hopefully there's not too much rust on it.

Thanks for the question, It all depends on how much you wanna spend, the best place to buy parts is off your nearest dealership sometimes they have it in stock if not they can order it for you and it's an original part, you can also buy one off a junkyard, or you can try online maybe they have any after market panels for it

Excellent video. A few questions for you. Is panel bond the same as seam sealer? Is panel bond weldable, or did you not use it in the location of the welds? Also, how long did the job take?
@AutoWizard94
@AutoWizard94 6 жыл бұрын
Hey how are ? No the panel bond and seam sealer are two different things one is used to seal to avoid water leakage and the panel bond is used to bond panels together. Wherever I was gonna weld I left without panel bond to have a better penetrating weld . A job like this takes me about a day usually I have other cars to work in between

Trying to understand why he cut it off ? Pretty Easy to drill out spot welds , unscrew screws , and pull the whole panel off. And only cut corner on hard to reach spot welds in-between the bed and cab.

Well JC, I believe cutting this way is faster, and more cost effective, the only time I remove the panel completely is when I have a recycled part. Spot weld drill bits and tools cost alot... It literally takes me like 2-3 minutes to cut a big whole in the middle and attack it from the inside and out, I'm not gonna use the panel at all anymore I'm putting a brand new one

Depends on parts and labor rates in your state. A bunch of different variables that come into play, hard to give out a price

The only way it would be less work is if you found the bed of the same exact color, so it a straight forward swap. But in the end you’d be out way more money

I can’t believe you didn’t clean the hidden part of that bed and remove the rust from the top of the inner wheel well and coat them with rust inhibitor before you put that bedside back on. Especially knowing Chevy trucks are notorious for rusting out at the wheel wells. Pretty lazy.

Maybe if the insurance companies would pay us the way they should we would do all that extra stuff but with the insurance companies doing us like they do if its not accident related and the customer chooses not to pay the extra then we're not going to do it. Body techs are in the shop to make a living not do a bunch of work for free
