Silverado HD Bi-LED Projector Retrofit

These trucks come from the factory with some incredibly horrible headlights in them and even though I had already upgraded them decided it was time to swap out the old bi-xenon projectors with some new bi-led projectors. This video goes over the entire process of pulling the old projectors whether they're stock or aftermarket to swap to a higher performance light. With basic hand tools and some wiring knowledge you can up your output big time.

The projectors are NHK IV Plus full size projectors that can be purchased several different places online.

I just finished doing this install in my 2019 Chevy 2500, same truck, same headlight housing and same projectors. Happy with the output, great so far. HOWEVER, my install did NOT go this easy, i had to do quite a bit of trimming inside the housing to make them sit flush, in addition to the trimming of the projector as Derrick mentions in the video. I had to slightly modify my brackets to make the holes line up, just turned the 4 projector mounting holes into slots to allow them to align with the housing properly. Also, if your truck is leveled, i do not recommend running a spacer between the bracket and the projector (for upward or downward tilt), i ended up having to remove them to get the proper alignment, but added an 1/8” spacer between the bracket and the projector on the driver side to aim it outward a little, this helped get the step in the middle of the road instead of the middle of my lane. Also, one of my projectors had a bad red hue and the cut off was garbage, come to find out it was missing washers between the projector lens and projector body, i was able to space it properly and tighten it just right to get the perfect alignment, completely fixed the issue. This was only my 2nd retrofit but needless to say i had all kinds of issues i wasn’t expecting, if anyone is doing this exact install and needs any advice please feel to reach out to me, i‘d be happy to share my little pointers over the phone or email. And i’m not trying to say that Derrick was wrong about anything, i’m just saying that my particular install was different. And honestly im sure all of these housings are slightly different, causing alignment/fitment issues for some.

Lighting is still just a hobby for me and I've probably only done less than a dozen sets every retrofit I've ever done needed little tweaks and stuff BUT I will say on these headlights specifically though every one that I have done has gone really smooth so I'm not sure what was going on with your particular housings. I have heard of a handful of people having weird things like that with those projectors but of all the sets I've used they've been good. Glad you were able to get it figured out and if nothing else I hope my video did more good than harm to your process.

Its amazing that i stumbled onto your channel, i have the same truck, the same nhk bi-xenon projectors from lightwerkz. Just replaced my bulbs from age and the brightness i was missing is amazing just from bulb change. I’ve been looking at reviews for this exact nhk bi-led too. Do you think the bi-led is brighter than the hid setup? I run mine at 55 watts, not sure what you ran. I’ve become a “flicker junkie” as Cesar (lightwerkz) would say, love that thick color band on the nhk bi-led.

Haven’t driven with them at night in this truck, still waiting on my anti flicker module. I have these same projectors in my daily and they are brighter from what I can tell (especially the HB with the extra LED), hard to tell without a side by side comparison though.

Do you remember by any chance how you got the wires connected to the OEM wiring? Please and thank you!

Just had to cut the wires that go to the factory bulb connection and solder the wires for the projector to it, then you’ll have to connect the high beam solenoid wires to the factory high beam wires which can either be soldered or you can use T taps

@@derrickcassel so you basically bypass the ballast and connect straight to the power wires, right? What about flickering? Did you get any of that when first starting the car?

This truck originall came with incandescent bulbs but yeah if you’ve got HIDs the 12v source comes before the ballast. I thought it was in the video but I did end up adding anti flicker modules because otherwise they would flicker and go off.
