Followed your video when changing my seal last night. Minus my seal being a major PITA to remove, everything else was easy peezy. Thank you for the content my friend !

The reason you mark the pinion NUT and pinion when replacing the seal is NOT to ensure you re-attach the driveshaft the same way it came apart, but to ensure when you replace the yoke and torque the nut you get the pinion bearing preload back to something close to proper values. If you didn't do that, good luck with obtaining proper pinion bearing preload. Now you'll need to pull it apart and start over with a new crush sleeve. You just turned an afternoon job into a multi-day-long thrash.

@@user-mv4nt9xk4i thanks for your feedback. The crush washer was already “crushed” to spec, all I needed to do is torque the pinion to factory or ring & pinion torque specs. Although I’m no certified mechanic, I definitely do my due diligence in researching the correct ways to approach a project (I also reach out to family and friends who are ASE Certified Mechanics). There are a bunch of other videos out there that are less descriptive then mine🤣

Do you need to drain the rear differential or add any gear lube after reinstalling?
@rsonrtf5 ай бұрын
I know right. Left out that detail completely.
@hawaiianbrokechanic5 ай бұрын
@@jefftwite1878 I didn’t add any gear oil. My differential cover has a dip stick and levels were within spec. So adding or replacing oil is up to you. It wouldn’t hurt to drain and replace oil, but you’re gonna need to remove diff cover and inspect magnet for metal shavings and give the carrier and gears a good brake clean cleaning to remove any debris… I hope this helps 🤙🏼

It suppose to be in park? Or neutral?

Park… if you have your truck on jack stands, be sure place wheel chocks on the front tires. Thanks for checking out the video 🤙🏼

How do you pull the bearing out?
@hawaiianbrokechanicАй бұрын
@@MichaelandMonicaWiley-hk7ft you need to remove diff cover and carrier then use a mallet to hit pinion until it pops out…

What does it show you having the bearing out but said not to remove crush washer
@dalemihocik47324 ай бұрын
FYI, in this rare instance you can use either the 7/16 inch or 11mm wrench on the driveshaft clamp bolts. The actual fractional difference is only .004 which is like nothing. Nice video.

Did you have to set preload or anything?
@hawaiianbrokechanic5 ай бұрын
@@marksalinas1862 I didn’t need to because the crush washer was already crushed within preload tolerances. All I needed to do is torque to spec (torque specs depends on ring & pinion manufacturer).

Do I need to unbend the tabs on the 32m nut?
@hawaiianbrokechanic Жыл бұрын
Yes to make sure it doesn’t back out. Once you torque down the pinion nut, Tap it in just enough to keep nut from turning.
@lloydbauch8908 Жыл бұрын
@@hawaiianbrokechanic does the yoke go back all the way flush or is it supposed to have a small gap ?
@hawaiianbrokechanic Жыл бұрын
@@lloydbauch8908 the yoke should go all the way in until it hits the bearing. Be sure you’ve lined up the splines so it can slide in properly. Be sure to torque the pinion nut to your factory specs… Then you can tap in the pinion nut tabs to lock it in.
