Had mine installed in 20 minutes, but I don't have a full center console. It was basically removing the two lower trim pieces, and the center stack. The 7mm bolt was the hardest part....it turned forever until I just got my drill out and powered it out. Sucks if you have a full center console though. It has worked flawlessly for about two months now!!! I've never turned it back on. For those considering....you never have to worry about forgetting to hit the switch and cursing at a stop light when the engine stops! I bought a truck for a V8...I want it to run. Not have my passenger ask me if my truck just stalled out. Or have to wait for it chug back to a start. Every time it chugged back on I felt like I was driving an old jalopy.

Simply next to the battery, unplug it. A Ford worker showed me, where it was. He said it doesn’t hurt anything, also it let’s you do something with the navigation while you are driving. I haven’t used that yet, but I will shortly when I have the opportunity. So I cannot comment on that honesty. But my truck has been unplugged over a month. No warning lights or issues. The truck is fine. He also said it doesn’t effect the warranty. But the plug is small and right next to the battery. Just unplug one at a time until the autostop light is on your dash, just like it does when you push the button. Best of all it’s free and simple.

@megaangelic2 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't. That's a myth from a decade ago. Cars with autostop have specifically designed autostop starters that will not wear out from being used as intended. There's literally no reason not to use it, unless it's a super hot or cold day, and in those cases it usually turns itself off anyway. Though it's weird this car doesn't have a setting to disable it by default. Virtually all cars have a function in the settings. But, cheap American crap I guess.

The reason I turn my auto stop off is due to the fact, the engine gets hotter when it shuts down. It can climb another 50, 60, or 70 degrees when turned off. I’d rather have the water flowing thru the engine and keeping it cool as much as I can. I had an older truck that ran at 180 degrees normally, but when turned off it would reach 240 degrees before cooling back down. As far as I know, heat equals pressure, and pressure equals strain on gaskets and hoses. Plus, replacing the starter will suck one day.

@megaangelic2 жыл бұрын
Don't bother commenting if you don't know what you're talking about. Stop start doesn't use a traditional starter and it doesn't wear out. They use stop start batteries designed for the purpose. And they absolutely do reduce emissions if you're stopped for more than 5 seconds. Which has been proven time and time and time again.
@Angel18102 жыл бұрын
@@megaangelic so you're trying to say that it is helpful to have this on so it can restart the engine when its idle?
@megaangelic2 жыл бұрын
@@Angel1810 It's helpful to have it on, as it'll 'pause' the engine when you stop at a red light, and 'resume' it when you're ready to pull off again. It does it faster than you can press down the clutch, (or release the brake in an auto), so doesn't interfere at all with your driving. But does save on fuel and emissions. If you're stopped a long time and the car needs the engine for another reason, like it wants to run the aircon etc, it'll kick back on earlier. Or in very cold temps it won't stop at all.

Auto Stop is ridiculous. As you hinted, the worse thing for your vehicle is when you start it cold. The second worse is when you start it warm. Anytime you stop the engine, the oil drains into the oil pan. So when you restart the engine, once more the engine is briefly oil starved! If they had an oil pressure accumulator system, they could still pump oil through the stopped engine. But there's no such thing in these.

Have a quick question i have noticed when i leave my 21 silverado running and i step out of the truck to direct traffic for my fire department my truck will shut down shutting off my emergancy lights has anyone found a way to stop the truck from shutting off after the time
@roberto32622 жыл бұрын
Hook your lights up directly to to the battery. You can have a separate switch still. I even have two switches on mine, so my wife doesn't turn them on accidently LOL. Make sure you use a fusible link in there.

You live in Minnesota and you are “ looking forward to getting an electric truck”? Yeah good luck with that😂

Actually they do trash the battery!!!!!

My truck is great on gas , the stop start is awful ,it's better on gas if it's shut off . I have gotten up to 25 mpg with the 5.3 . Terrible idea
@chrisloesch18703 жыл бұрын
mine as well. Truck engines are WAYYYY More fuel efficient than they were 10-15 years ago.

It shortens your starter life!

The Autostop function? Or the Eliminator? I'm more concerned about the autostop ruining my turbo... I thought you weren't supposed to shut off your truck's engine until the turbo had a chance to cool down, is that still a thing?

I not going to defend this stupid switch for anything. I think it uses more gas than just running

Don’t beat yourself up over the climate change according to what they said 20 years ago none of us should even be here right now so believe what you want to we don’t lose sleep at night worrying about it because they’ll just move the goal post

How are you dooms day tinfoil hat conspiracy people not in love with the idea of electric cars? I’d take electric truck in a post apocalyptic world hands down. Zero maintenance and no gas to fight over lol.

Will the 23sierra version work on 23 Canyon/ Colorado? They have the same engine

Ask your starter how it likes it. The amount of "fuel" you save vs cost of a new starter.

Starting a warm truck is nothing like starting a cold truck. But I agree it’s not good for its lifespan lol.
@Littleoddz3 жыл бұрын
@@TruckOwnership101 True but either way lol. Prematurely shortens the life span. I've worked on BMW's for years, ever since they implemented that start/stop crap, feels like I replace them every other month

It’s not to save you gas it’s to meet emission rules they could care less if you spend more money as long as it passes the stupid emission tests
@Littleoddz3 жыл бұрын
@@redneck4200000 Everything is about emissions, but better fuel economy coincides with better emissions. But having the vehicle turn off at idle doesn't make a huge impact, there are better ways to go about it. Just wait until they start installing the receivers on the highways. That CEL will become a letter in the mail telling you to get your car fixed or be fined.
@sg1friz3 жыл бұрын
Does this solve the truck shutting off when idle for more than 15-30-1hr-10hrs????
@TruckOwnership1013 жыл бұрын
All this does is send the signal that you pressed the button is all. If pushing that button doesn’t fix those shut offs, then neither will this.
@randomguy9092 жыл бұрын
Is there a fuse I can pull to disable it ?
@TruckOwnership1012 жыл бұрын
Not to my knowledge. Based on this wiring harness, the signal to turn it off comes from the computer.

it looks like they have discount codes. is there one for your viewers?
@jeffhurley35483 жыл бұрын
Sadly it’s not fixing emissions it’s making them worse you burn more fuel on restart and electric trucks have a long way off especially for towing. It will trash your starter quicker 😎
@ScubaSteve-ch3oj3 жыл бұрын
No matter what the gas is getting burned. Whether idling at a light or wide open throttle. Turning the car off will save you gas but Im not sure about your cleaner environment virtue signaling. Its cute. But illogical.
@chrisloesch18703 жыл бұрын
he's from Minnesota, complains about his truck being gas guzzling but still buys a 5.3liter V8 and then disables a feature which supposedly saves fuel and the environment. He seems conflicted? lol. Go buy a prius, lol.

well trucks are 50-60k well equipped now , they will be 100k+ when they go electric so i can wait
@TruckOwnership1013 жыл бұрын
I don’t think they will be that bad out of the gate. The 4x4 CyberTruck is $49k. The new hummer is a super truck like the TRX and Raptor, so 80k to 113k is understandable for what it is. Silverado’s are not going to compete with the hummer and therefore won’t be as expensive. 🤞 They’re decent and in reach.
