I love how Shabani plays it cool. He seems to enlist Ai’s aid. His nearness to Kiyomasa lets his son know there is no threat, but Shabani is still the boss. When Kiyomasa played with Shabani, I cheered. Shabani just presented us with a master class on diplomacy. If only humans could do the same! Thank you for bringing us this uplifting story today.

Incredible!!! Shabani has neutralized Nene, AND Ai didn't let Kiyo near Annie. Orders from the great Chief??? Annie lost weight!! I think what Shabani did was that she didn't let anyone get close to Kiyo..."let's talk like father to son and let no one interfere in our affairs." For the moment things calmed down, but Shanani's face tells me He doesn't want to lose control. He has eyes in the back of his head!! Annie didn't approach Kiyo either, she looked at him out of the corner of her eye or from afar. The great leader disciplined and separated the bodyguards....True war tactics!!!!

It's good Shabani is a strong healthy silverback but as we know it doesn't take much to end a healthy gorilla, Rip Matadi. Shabani is so wise. I so wish we knew what their thought processes are. I've realised that it's all about the eyes. They are able to signal so much with just a flash of the eyes, raised eyelids, looking down or away or towards. Shabani made it so obvious that he wanted to be near his son. I think the ladies were all being wary in case something kicked off again. After all, its the ladies who wade in and keep the peace when something goes wrong. Seems to me that gorilla society is pretty similar to human society in that regard. It is such a relief to see things back to normal after seeing father and son at odds with each other. I guess this is going to happen more often while Kiyomasa is maturing. I'm wondering at what age you will decide that Kiyomasa has to be moved to where he can have his own troop and be in charge. How will he deal with that I wonder.

What do zoos do after the silverbacks son reaches sexual maturity? Male dispersal in the wilds natural, usually happens between the ages of 8-12, and its one of the ways nature prevents inbreeding. I’m not saying this zoo’s doing anything wrong. I just was curious because this has to happen in zoos around the world, wasn’t sure if captivity changes anything? Thanks
