I think with Shabani it's more about control than anything. He didn't get the nickname "Tyrant" for nothing. There's another channel with some old videos of the troop years ago. In the videos I saw, he was constantly slapping around Nene and Ai like he was a pimp.

@ScottALanter that's funny. I have watched this group for years and never heard anyone referring to him as tyrant. You misunderstand what is happening in those videos. He isn't hurting or tormenting any of them. That is his way of playing with the group, and keeping all of them motivated. They used to do that every day, especially when the kids got older. It was like a game of tag to them.

Actually, that is a game Shabani has been playing since he formed the troop. He would irritate the ladies by constantly tapping them until they snap and start chasing him. He was doing that to Nene all the time. Now Ai is his favourite target. He is a big kid.

I have always adored Ai's spunk. She has NEVER put up with Shabani's BS. Even when younger in old enclosure, sometimes she might have peed herself when she ran after his ass, when he made her mad, but she doesn't back down. You go Ai !! I do find the few months Annie takes up for her mom more now. No not that she did it for Annie when little. But Ai has more involved over the years. Maybe they teally mature completely in their own time. I love them alleven NeNe, she is a shiity grandma, but has always been a tremendously wonderful mother!!

I noticed that the gorillas like to sit in doorways in the same posture they would use in a tree at a branch junction. The climbing apparatus seems to be mainly horizontal surfaces, good for humans but not natural for gorillas when climbing or comfortably resting in a tree.

I have a feeling that nene is in very bad condition, and they are just stringing her along when they should just let her go. They have given several updates saying that she is eating better and moving better, but let's face it, they have a bad habit of not being truthful. I just hope they aren't making her linger in pain.

I am increasingly unhappy with the care of Shabani and his family. It is not healthy that none of the gorillas have mated for years. This situation is creating tension within the troop. Kiyomasa has been isolated, and Ai is being stalked and harrassed. The gorillas also do not look healthy to me. Annie has lost a great deal of hair, and even Shabani has patchy places on his arms. All of the gorilla's hair has become dry and scruffy-looking. I'm beginning to wonder if the zoo canot financially afford to care for Shabani's family. 😢

This is what I’m thinking 🤔.. Shabani is wanting to mate and Ai just doesn’t want to.. Ai has been not mating for a long time now and he’s trying to keep Kiyo away from her to make sure he’s the only one getting with Ai. I hope this helps

Ai is probably one of the biggest female Gorilla's that I've ever seen. Were she in the wild she would have left Shabani ages ago. She has zero interest in mating with him and no amount of flirting on his behalf is going to change that!

Nene and Ricky were both stolen in 1972 from Cameroon to eventually breed....he was a good looking silverback. He was quite large too, that's probably why Ai is so large. Nene is small, but I see her in Ai's facial features.

Shabani es muy bueno, debe estar estresado, se llevaron un miembro de su tropa debe estar nervioso, Ai no se quiere relacionar con él y tiene a dos gorilas adultos viviendo con el (Kiyo y Annie) la dinámica de la tropa esta cambiando. Si no tienen planes para Annie déjenla con Gentaro de una vez, no la dejes envejecer y que su carácter sea trastornado. Manda a Kiyo a un grupo de soltero junto a Kintaro y pon a Ai con Momotaro, no es justo que viva lo mejor de su juventud junto Genki que no lo quiere. Hembras nuevas para Shabani.

People are still asking about Nene, it has now been several months that she has been locked away in a basement and from view. No fresh air or sunlight that is not a good life for a Gorilla. I can only imagine how damaged her mental state would be. The " updates " they do are always the same babble, so what are they hiding? This is animal abuse and neglect, if a child was locked in a basement would that be acceptable?

Shabani & Haoko & other half siblings only had one Silverback their dad Kibabu. They were black backs when they left for Japan. 🦍

@normasantoro1087 no, shabani is a teddy bear compared to haoko. He had 3 females at one time and would attack them all for no reason. You may see shabani as bad for some reason, but honestly you don't see this happen very often. And you don't know why he is doing it, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a reason. We have no idea what is happening off camera that could be upsetting him. We only see a glimpse of their lives. You can't judge things off of that little bit that we see.

This troop is so dysfunctional & so unhappy, after 5 yrs I can't watch anymore, I keep hoping things will get better but the joy & happiness has gone. Management didn't step up to do the right thing & remove Kiyomasa. I do pray things improve but right now it's too stressful.😢
