@Silver Cymbal thanks for the post . Question can u connect one end of the quick connect line and come back a day and connect the other end to the condenser? Also when u first connected the 25ft line to the air handler from the hole did you hear any gas been release while tightening the first connection ? I just connected the first section to the air handler and heard the gas been release . It got dark and I couldn’t connect the other section to the condenser. Will connect the other section to the condenser in the morning. I am setting up a 4zone 12,12,12&9 k to a 36k condenser.

I installed 2 ton mini-split heat pump in my garage in 2019, and it's been one of the best investments I have ever made in my home. It is so nice to be able to turn the garage into a meat locker on those hot days, melt the snow and slush in the winter. You will be amazed at the moisture-removing power, even in heat mode. One thing to look out for - the brand I chose (not Mr cool) has a minimum set temperature of 60 degrees while in heat mode. I would prefer something in the 45-50 range for a garage application, just enough for snow melting and freeze protection. Maintaining 60 on a 5-degree day definitely burns some electricity. On those arctic days, it can cost as much as $15 / day. On the typical 25-35 degree days we have in Cleveland, I'm adding about $5 / day to my electric bill. For reference, my garage is fully insulated, including doors. In summary, try to find a unit that allows a wide set temp range.

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Did the same thing with my A/C install for the tubing sleeve. And pretty much any time I have a passage going from interior to exterior with extra space in it (for example, I also have a piece of conduit running through my wall for amateur radio antenna coax) I plug the remaining space up with stainless steel wool.

I installed the 24,000 BTU, probably identical to the one shown here. It saved my butt this week after power outages during hurricane Ida in South Louisiana. The unit runs fine on almost any generator. The variable speed compressor doesn't have a surge upon start-up. It slowly increases compressor power. These units are super efficient. I didn't get the collar that goes through the wall with mine...I need to call the company.

My experience with mini-splits is they are much better coolers than heaters. We use four of them in our place in Mazatlan, SIN, MX, where heating is never an issue since it NEVER gets cold. However, in Vancouver, BC, CAN, my daughter uses mini-splits in her place but needs additional (baseboard) heat in the winter when it can get as low as -5°C

Great quality for BOTH the mini split install AND (as always) the quality of the video which was to the point with all the information someone watching would need without unnecessary fluff to get to the 10 minute mark. I would very much appreciate a follow-up video with how the mini split performed during winter. I also live in similar climate (Minneapolis) and have been seriously considering these. All of the local HVAC people that I have talked to seem to want to discourage folks from using mini splits saying they do not work as well in winter. On the contrary, I have seen first hand mini splits work quite well in other parts of the world as well as videos on youtube showing entire homes being heated/cooled by multi zone mini splits in Canada - which leads me to believe that the technology has matured sufficiently to serve both heating and cooling duties. I do have a large-ish garage space - almost 800 sq ft 3-car garage with 12 foot ceilings. So I am guessing I will need to invest in a slightly larger capacity (18k or 24k BTU?) unit. But I reckon if your friend can use a mini split for their basement (i.e. in a large living space), I should be able to find one with capacity to heat and cool my garage. I should note that my garage exterior walls and garage doors are insulated. Thanks for the great video and hopefully can get some input on how well these work for heating in really cold climates.

I’ve seen a couple videos like this, but I felt a little better informed after watching yours. Thanks for keeping it simple but thorough. Looking to build and I want at least 1-2 of these units for a garage and an electrical room for solar with lithium batteries that don’t like temperature extremes and a pool pump. Possibly 3 depending on the garage size. This is of course still a dream until done.

I installed a 12K unit and love it. If you install a heat pump AC in a cold climate the heating might not be sufficient during long cold spells. I believe the unit would need an electric heating element to keep you warm. Also, it's important when cutting through the wall to angle the hole downward from inside to outside. Mini split systems are notorious for condensate dripping from the indoor unit (air handler) due to drain lines not dropping sufficiently.

Nice job. I would recommend cutting the refrigerant tubing to fit and reflare the ends. You would have to pull a vacuum on the tubing and the indoor unit though. In the world of refrigeration we are taught that the system is most efficient with the shortest possible interconnecting tubing and the smallest refrigerant charge. You would've probably had to remove some of the refrigerant due to the back to back installation. Some systems can tolerate small overcharges and some are temperamental.

The thing is with these diy mini split kits, you spend less if you buy a system from a quality brand like Daikin or Cooper and Hunter, and then HVACR tools necessary (get cheap since you only need it once) and the end result is a better system

Enjoy the videos, unrelated to this one but is that an Eley hose reel? Which reel do you like better that one or the retractable one from your recent video?
